Miles, Jones make collegiate commitments

Hartselle juniors Cade Miles and Kaelyn Jones recently announced on Twitter that they had committed to continue their playing careers after high school.

Miles, who plays shortstop for the 6A State Champs, committed to Jacksonville State University Oct. 9. He is the son of Hartselle assistant coach and assistant principal Jake Miles.

“I’m blessed and excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Jacksonville State University,” Miles said. “I want to thank all of my coaches for all they did to help me along the way. I’d also like to thank my family for always being there to support me.”

Miles finished his sophomore season with 36 runs scored, 35 hits and 30 RBIs while hitting .324 with an on-base percentage of .421.

Jones, who plays shortstop for the Lady Tigers, committed to UT-Martin Oct. 15.

“I am extremely excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at UT-Martin,” Jones said. “First of all, I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game I love.”

Jones, entering her junior season, has a career batting average of more than .470 and has 166 hits, 151 runs, 111 RBIs and 84 stolen bases. She is on pace to break school records in all four categories.
