Danville picks up second win of season at Asbury

ALBERTVILLE — The Danville Hawks picked up their second win of the season this past Thursday with a 49-6 win at Asbury in a 3A Region 7 matchup.

The Hawks rushed for 242 yards while passing for 127 yards as they amassed 369 total yards in the victory.

Kade Taylor led Danville with 145 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries. His older brother Gage had 63 yards rushing and a touchdown on three carries.

Benjamin Ellenburg finished 7 of 9 passing for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Tristan Bishop had three receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown while Gage Taylor had two receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown.

The defense had its best performance of the season in holding the Rams to 123 total yards and six points. Jackson Randolph intercepted two passes and Ellenburg picked off one in thwarting the Asbury offense.

Danville (2-5, 2-2) travels to Vinemont (2-5, 1-3) to continue region play.

The Hawks control their own destiny in terms of reaching the playoffs. With wins over Vinemont and Brindlee Mountain in their final two region games, Danville will make the playoff as the fourth seed. If Susan Moore loses one of their final two region games, the Hawks could finish as the third seed.
