Are you under God’s authority?

By Todd Barrier

There are a lot of issues going on in our country right now. As a nation, America is dealing with a lot of divisiveness and hate. Opinions vary from person to person, and they are all based on everyone’s differing set of morals.

Why are there so many opinions? Let’s look at some places that people get their morals from and we might find the answer. People develop their moral code from friends, trends, family, government, work, our feelings and conscience. The reason these aren’t a good place to set our feet with our morals is because opinions based on these things can change constantly because all of these things change constantly. Christians must find their opinions based on God’s unchanging word. Not only is God’s Word unchanging, but if we find our authority in that Word, we are united in the eyes of those who may oppose us and may help bring them to Christ because of that unity. We can be confident in basing our moral authority in Christ because He has all authority (Matthew 28:18.)

We can also be confident because Jesus delegated authority to His apostles (John 13:20) and gave them the Holy Spirit as their helper (John 14:26; 16:12-13) to guide us into all things pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1.) Find your moral authority to base your stances on issues of this world based solely on God’s Word!
