Lady Tigers win four last week
The 6A No. 2-ranked Hartselle Tiger girls (35-6-1) had an undefeated week and wrapped up another area regular-season title.
They started the week off with a win over 6A No. 4 Hazel Green and followed that up with a win over rival Cullman, which clinched the 6A Area 14 regular-season title. Friday they defeated a 25-win Pell City team and the No. 21-ranked team in the Maxpreps national rankings, the Lexington Lady Golden Tigers.
Hartselle 11, Hazel Green 5
The Lady Tigers went on the road and defeated the 6A defending state champs, the Hazel Green Lady Trojans, 11-5 in a battle between ranked teams.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 first-inning lead and never let up, scoring four in the second, one in the third and three more in the fourth.
Larissa Preuitt was four-of-five with six stolen bases, four runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Hartselle attack.
Karsi Lentz hit her 17th home run and drove in three while being walked three times. Brityan Godfrey was two-of-four with two RBIs, while Katie Gillott was two-of-three with two runs, an RBI and two walks.
Blayne Godfrey pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out seven.
Hartselle 8, Cullman 2
Hartselle clinched the 6A Area 14 regular-season title with an 8-2 win over Cullman. It was the Lady Tigers’ fourth consecutive win over Cullman, going back to the area finals in 2021.
Hartselle jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Cullman scored runs in the second and third to grab a 2-1 lead. The Lady Tigers scored three in the fourth and fifth to blow the game open. They capped off the scoring with one in the sixth.
Lentz led the way with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Gillott, Brantley Drake and Riley Kate Wolf added two hits. Gillott scored two runs and an RBI, while Drake and Wolf scored a run.
Lentz got the win after giving up two runs on one hit while striking out two in three innings of work. Sarah Bowling pitched four innings of relief to earn the save.
Hartselle 2, Pell City 1
Hartselle came from behind to pick up a 2-1 win over Pell City in the first game of the Northwest Alabama Bash at the Florence Sportsplex Friday.
Pell City jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a home run. The Lady Tigers scored two in the top of the third and held on for the 2-1 victory.
Preuitt was three-of-three with a double, a run scored and a stolen base to lead the Hartselle offense. Gillott had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Lentz had a double and an RBI.
Bowling started the game and gave up one run on four hits in four innings to pick up the win. Blayne Godfrey struck out three in her inning of work to earn the save.
Hartselle 8, Lexington (TN) 0
The Lady Tigers picked up a decisive 8-0 victory over the top teams in the nation, according to Maxpreps. The Lady Golden Tigers entered the game with a 23-0 record.
Hartselle scored two in the bottom of the second and six more in the fourth to take the victory.
Eight of the nine Lady Tigers batters had hits, with Brityan Godfrey leading the way with two. Preuitt had a triple, three RBIs and a run scored. Blayne Godfrey and Drake had a hit and an RBI each. Emily Hall, Drake, Wolf and VK Hoyle had a hit and a run each, while Sahvana Barber and Brooklyn Stiles scored runs.
