Title: “All the Light We Cannot See”
Author: Anthony Doerr

Marie-Laure lives in Paris with her father, who is the key keeper at the Natural History Museum. At 6 years old, she goes blind and learns how to get around on her own by memorizing the miniature model of the town her father made for her.

When rumors of war are confirmed and occupation by the Nazis is imminent, the museum director has the task of shipping out and hiding some of their most important pieces – one of them being the Sea of Flames jewel, which is not only priceless but holds a dangerous warning for the one who is in possession of it.

The director has three replicas made and instructs certain employees to take one and run to a faraway location until the occupation is over.  None of them know which one is the real jewel.

Their journey takes them to Saint-Malo, France, to stay with Marie’s great uncle Etienne.

Meanwhile, a German-born orphan, Werner, finds a broken radio and studies it until he figures out how to fix it. Werner and his sister, Jutta, are obsessed with a radio program they discovered that teaches all things science and also shares news on the war.

Word gets around that Werner is handy with radios, and he is enlisted to a school for boys who will be trained to fight for the Fuhrer.

Werner is excited to leave the coal mining future he was predisposed to but hates to leave Jutta.

Once at the school, Werner begins to see this was never about teaching him to become a technician; it was meant to teach him how to root out the enemy.

What Werner doesn’t know is that the enemy might turn out to be the one who will help you see the light.

Told in different points of view with changing timelines, this historical fiction is still fairly easy to follow and an enjoyable read.

Title: “Corporate Crush”
Author: Moxie Rose
Reading level: Adult

Hadley Bowman is the executive assistant for the CEO of Calloway Industries, Jensen Calloway.

Since the beginning, she has liked her boss as more than a boss; however, she refuses to be just another assistant having a romantic relationship with her boss.

This changes when she accidentally gives her boss a view after she thinks she has left their zoom meeting.

Jenson Calloway is the reluctant CEO of Calloway Industries. He only took the job after an accident killed his father and older brother.

The only good thing out of the situation was meeting Hadley Bowman. Jensen sees a future with her, but he refuses to cross the line she put between them.

What will happen when he needs a fake fiancée to secure a business deal?

This book is an office romance combined with the fake dating trope. Readers will find this book hilarious with Hadley’s spontaneous friends and their crazy antics. This book is available on Hoopla as an audiobook.
