Growing in the new year

By Michelle Blaylock

Library manager

Happy New Year from the William Bradford Huie Library of Hartselle! We hope 2022 will be blessed with health and happiness for you and yours.

We are looking forward to continuing to expand our services to our community and our patrons in 2022. We will continue to be open on Monday evenings until 7 p.m., and we will offer a wide variety of programs throughout each month. We offer painting classes, a book club, gaming night and special story times, in addition to our weekly Wednesday Little Listener Story Times. We are also adding movies! For more information, please call or stop by the library.

We are excited to be able to launch our newest service, Hoopla, thanks to a Library Services and Technology Act Grant through Alabama Public Library Services and the support of our city council.  Hoopla is a digital service that will allow William Bradford Huie Library cardholders to check out digital copies of books, audiobooks, movies, TV programs and music.

I am sure many readers have heard of Hoopla but might not be familiar with how it works. It is extremely easy to use. First, you will need to have an active library card. Next, download the Hoopla app and follow the directions in the app to register your library card. That’s it. The materials will be automatically returned upon due date – no overdue fines or fees!

We are also able to expand our other digital service, Overdrive/Libby, with this same grant. Our hopes are to reduce wait time on some of the more popular books and audiobooks checked out through that service.

If you would like help with either one of these services, please call or stop by the library. Our librarians will be happy to help you.

Thank you for your support throughout the year.  We look forward to serving you and meeting our growing community’s needs in 2022.
