Moving spiritual mountains

By Todd Barrier

With the new year coming up, it’s that time of year again – time to make those resolutions!

Many of us will use this time of renewal to try to steer ourselves toward a better relationship with God. There will be many “I will” statements. We will declare to God that “I will…” do this or that.

When it comes to our relationship with God, these statements are serious. The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:33-37 that He doesn’t want us making oaths but to let our word be our bond:

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely but shall perform your oaths to the Lord’ … But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”

So, when we make our resolutions, and we say to God, “I will…” we are giving God our word – a big fat yes!

It’s a great thing to try to strengthen our relationship with God, but we have to remember to take it seriously and do it wisely.

With God’s help, in the coming year, we can move spiritual mountains. What will your “I will…” be?
