Lady Tigers fall in rematch with Hazel Green

The Hartselle Lady Tigers and Hazel Green met in a rematch of their Northwest Regional finals thriller that the Lady Trojans won 32-25. The defending state champions left no doubt in Monday’s game at Hartselle High School.

Hazel Green opened the game with an 8-0 run and led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter. Masyn Marchbanks and Alyssa McMinemon each had two points in the quarter.

The second quarter started with a Hartselle 12-3 run that gave them a 16-15 lead. However, the Lady Trojans closed the half on a 15-0 run, capitalizing on multiple Lady Tiger turnovers, to take a 30-16 lead into halftime. Marchbanks scored nine for Hartselle.

The Lady Trojans defense dominated the second half, giving up 14 total points. Hazel Green outscored the Lady Tigers 34-14 in close out the game.

Marchbanks finished with a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Tigers. She also had five rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block. Kayleigh Shipley and Emma Roden each had three points.

Sydney Stewart had 19 points to lead Hazel Green. Leah Brooks added 16 points.

Hartselle (4-4) will travel to Mountain Brook on Friday for a 6:00 pm tip.
