Parks, Rec announces Pumpkin Float Oct. 29

Special to the Enquirer

The Sparkman Park Pond will be aglow with floating Jack-o-lanterns at the 2021 Pumpkin Float, set for Oct. 29.

The event will be hosted by the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Department. Pumpkins will float at 6:30 p.m., and a movie will begin at 7 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on during the movie.

To participate in the pumpkin float, people can register and pay online at hartselle.recdesk.com or in person at Sparkman Civic Center no later than Oct. 22. Registration is $15 per pumpkin.

Pumpkins can be picked up at the civic center Oct. 27 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Oct. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Participants will carve their pumpkins at home and then bring them to Sparkman Park Pond Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.

Flotation devices will be attached to carved pumpkins, and a glow stick will be placed inside each one. The Parks and Rec Department will take a picture of each Jack-o-lantern to post to Facebook, and the carver of the pumpkin that gets the most “likes” will win a Halloween surprise.

Following the float at 6:30 p.m. and the family-friendly movie, all pumpkins will be removed by Parks and Rec staff.
