Falkville approves $2.4M budget

A 2021-22 operating budget with revenues totaling $2,685,837 was approved by the Falkville Town Council at its regular monthly meeting Oct. 4. Anticipated expenditures totaled $2,425,885, leaving a balance of $259,952. The figures were approved retroactive to Oct. 1, 2021. 

According to town officials, General Fund revenues exceeded expenditures by $703,245, while expenditures surpassed revenues by $324,583 in the Police Department. 

The budget includes a base salary increase from $500 to $1,000 monthly for Larry Madison, the town’s legal representative. The town’s employees will be considered for a cost-of-living pay adjustment at mid-year. 

In other council business, an ordinance was passed authorizing police officers, in accordance with Act No. 2021-495 of the Alabama Legislature, to issue summonses in lieu of arrest for persons charged with certain offenses; adopting the procedural requirements of the Act; approving a form of summons and complaint; and adapting a schedule of fees for violations. 

The council also: 

  • Approved the opening of a checking account with Cadence Bank in Falkville for the ARC Drainage Account 
  • Approved a step raise for Brooke Jones for completion of library assistant training 
  • Approved a change in employee insurance coverage from a 90-day probationary period to date of hire 
  • Approved the appointment of Jane Hill and Rhona Summerford to the Falkville Public Library Board
