Soccer Notebook: Hartselle boys soccer improves to 16-3-1

Local soccer teams are gearing up for the postseason that begins April 22. Hartselle is looking to clinch their area with a win this week, while Danville boys and Priceville girls won their region and area last week.

Hartselle, Danville, and Brewer boys went undefeated last week, while Priceville and Danville girls had a clean slate.

Hartselle
Hartselle boys 5, Muscle Shoals 0
Keegan Zanda had three goals to lead the Tigers to a region win over Muscle Shoals. Chipper Johnson added two goals while Dylan Vaughn, Owen Bennich, and Jacob Cody each had an assist. Nicholas Vaughn had two saves in the shutout.

Hartselle boys 3, Decatur 2
The Tigers battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Red Raiders 2-2 after goals by Eli Moore and Dylan Vaughn to force overtime. The teams played two scoreless overtime periods and two rounds of penalty kicks to decide the outcome. The Tigers won 7-6 in penalty kicks to win the match. Scoring on penalty kicks were Ivan Bello, Bryan Munoz, Dylan Vaugn, Keegan Zanda, and Owen Bennich. The Tigers improved to 16-3-1 overall and 5-0 in area play.

The Hartselle girls team went 2-1 last week with a 4-2 win over buckhorn, a 4-2 win over Russellville, and a 5-1 loss to Decatur. The Lady Tigers improved to 6-10 for the season.

Priceville
New Hope boys 2, Priceville 1
The Bulldogs dropped an area game to New Hope by a 2-1 score. Maclain Lawson scored the only goal for Priceville off an assist from Elijah Hopkins.

Priceville boys 5, Fairview 4
Priceville had to go to extra time to defeat Fairview 5-4. Elijah Hopkins scored four goals, including the game-winner to lead the Bulldogs. Dylan Thompson also scored for Priceville.

Priceville girls 10, New Hope 0
The Lady Bulldogs clinched a spot in the playoffs with their 10-0 win over New Hope. Anna Katherine Hopkins had four goals and two assists to lead Priceville. Katrina Rotermund added two goals and two assists. Karli Wade had two goals, while Ellie Stockwell and Camille Speering each had a goal. Lillyan Bloodworth had an assist. Bre Dugger and Tori Staats combined for the shutout.

Priceville girls 5, Fairview 0
Karli Wade and Lillyan Bloodworth each had two goals and an assist in leading the Lady Bulldogs to a region clinching win over Fairview. Anna Swindell added a goal. Priceville is 10-4 overall and 7-0 in area play.

Brewer
The Patriots were undefeated last week as they defeated Fairview 2-1 and Scottsboro 1-0. They improved to 8-3-2 overall and 6-1 in region play.

The Lady Patriots fell to 2-10 with a 2-1 loss to Fairview and a 5-3 loss to Scottsboro.

Danville
Danville boys 6, Lawrence Co. 0
Justin Hanline had four goals to lead the Hawks to a 6-0 win over Lawrence Co. Also scoring for Daville was Martin Lopez and Skyler Avans.

Danville boys 5, St. Bernard 0
Ever Lopez had two goals, while Justin Hanline had a goal and three assists to lead Danville to a 5-0 win over St. Bernard. Martin Lopez had a goal and two assists, and Moises Parra added a goal. The win improves the Hawks to 11-1-2 overall and 8-0 in region play.

Danville girls 3, Lawrence Co. 0
Angel Boston, Maddie Sherrill, and Kelsey Netherton each scored a goal to lead the Lady Hawks to a win over the Lady Red Devils. Elisabeth Hand had 14 saves in the shutout.

Danville girls 1, St. Bernard 0
The Lady Hawks outscored St. Bernard 2-1 on penalty kicks to win and clinch a playoff spot. Scoring for Danville was Kelsey Netherton and Angel Boston. Elisabeth Hand had 29 saves in the shutout. Danville is 8-6 on the season and 5-1 in region play.
