Family bluegrass gospel group brings smiles to elderly

The Ricketts Family Bluegrass Gospel group plans to hit the nursing home circuit again.  

If you play fiddle or bass and would like to play and sing for the best audience out there, please message the group on Facebook.  

The pay is excellentA smile is worth a million dollars – and this year it’s worth $2 million in the in the faces of those sweet elderly folks.  

Warning though – You will fall ilove with someone itheir last days, but what joy ibrings tthem and you.  

The group plays mostly in Morgan and Lawrence counties. They also sing at churches and some festivals. You don’t have to be great; you just have to love to play. Jesus is the reason! 

The members of the gospel group are Dwight Sparks and wife Faye, Tim and Retta Ricketts, Troy Hall, Shirley Woodard and minister Jack Armstrong.  

Falkville Fire and Rescue Activities  

During the month of February, the Falkville Fire and Rescue Department received and responded to 82 calls for service. These included 49 for EMS, eight for fire, 22 for motor vehicle incidents and one each for HAZMATweather and other 

The Falkville Fire and Rescue volunteers had a very busy month during February but still responded to 100 percent of their calls. 

 The department’s volunteers are dedicated to serving Falkville and surrounding communities.  

The department members attended a County Fire Tactics Conference in Pensacola Beach, Florida. They also provided 24hour coverage during the winter weather and completed their annual radiation training, provided by the Morgan County EMA and ADPH Radiation Control, for response to assist with emergencies involving TVA.  

Many thanks are expressed to the Falkville Fire and Rescue Department for their service.   

Community Church Activities  

The members of McKendree United Methodist Church will hold their Palm Sunday Service March 28 at 10:45 a.m. with the Rev. Darrell Mosely bringing the message.  

The Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks will lead the Palm Sunday Service at Falkville United Methodist Church. 

The members of Piney Grove Congregational Methodist Church will host a joint Easter Service April 4 for Mt. Vernon and Corinth West Methodist Church.   

Corinth West Methodist Church hosted a Swamp John’s fundraiser March 20. The church members had tables set up to seat six people each in the fellowship hall. Some of those attending ate in, and others took theirs to go, during the 47 p.m. supper.
