The Priceville Police Department later confirmed the weapon was a loaded pistol that had been recovered from a ninth-grade student who had brought the firearm on campus to trade for tobacco products.

Authorities said neither student had any intention on causing harm to anyone at the school. The investigation is ongoing and both students will be referred to the Morgan Count Juvenile Court Division.

No threats toward students or staff have been identified.

“(The) Priceville Police Department has given us the all clear and Priceville High School has resumed normal operations,” Elliott said. “Any reports of incidence that might compromise student safety are taken very seriously, and law enforcement is notified immediately.
