American Legion Post 52 supports local Civil Air Patrol

Special to the Enquirer

The officers and members of American Legion Post 52 in Hartselle have presented a $500 check to Cadet Capt. Izen Thornton of the General Joe Wheeler Squadron at Hartselle High School.

In supporting the Civil Air Patrol, the Legion furthers its given mission to advance the causes of patriotism and support of the youth of America.

Post 52 Commander Michael Ferguson, said he was excited to support such an outstanding youth organization and was incredulous of the number of activities CAP is involved in. “I knew CAP had a wonderful youth program, but I didn’t realize they were on the front line supporting immunizations of people from north Alabama for COVID,” Ferguson said. For the past year they have been flying detection kits and are now transporting vaccines as well. The depth and breadth of this organization is truly awe-inspiring.”

Ferguson said supporting the young people of this community is one of the cornerstones of the American Legion, and the expansion of the Legion’s support to CAP is only one of the new initiatives he is working on.

“I envision us at Post 52 returning to our place as the premier spot here in Hartselle for veterans to gather and fellowship with one another,” he added. “By supporting our youth through these organizations and through our other programs, to include the oratorical program, we want to be a positive influence on these young people, ensuring that Hartselle keeps on being the leader as not only the best place to live but having the best support for our veterans here in north Alabama.”
