Ali Lemmond & Tony Shelton – August 28, 2020

The ProposalTony knew I would be suspicious of anything different from our typical routine, so on an ordinary Thursday in January, we met on our lunch break to take our golden retriever, Chance, for a walk around the lake. As we reached the gazebo over the lake, Tony had treats in his pocket and had Chance lay down. Then, he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so shocked and couldn’t believe he pulled it off without me figuring it out.

Favorite Moment from the Big DayIf the old saying about rain on your wedding day brings good luck is true, then Tony and I will have enough to pass down to our great-grandkids. Our wedding fell on the historic week when there were two hurricanes making landfall at the same time. On top of that, while we were taking pictures before the ceremony, a tornado was headed straight for the venue. Our wedding party had to take cover in the hallway, but thankfully it passed by us. We had bought 15 clear umbrellas the day before, just in case we needed them, but at that point, I wasn’t worried about the rain. All I could think about was marrying Tony. My dad walked me through the rain and down the aisle to my future husband. As soon as we started reciting our vows we wrote for each other, the rain settled, and the sun came out for the first time that day. I could feel it shining right on us. Then, as we were pronounced husband and wife and walked out, the most beautiful rainbow formed directly above us. We immediately knew it was a sign from Tony’s mom, who was watching over us from Heaven.

What You Are Doing NowWe are soaking up every bit of married life we can! Both of our jobs have been remote lately, which has been a blessing to us. The unfortunate part is we will be spending much of our first year of marriage thousands of miles and many time zones apart. Tony is deploying overseas soon and will return later in 2021. So, we have been taking every chance to create new memories while we have the time. We are also adding a second golden retriever to our family soon to keep me company while he is gone. We hope this next year flies by, and we are looking forward to creating lots of new memories once he is back!
