Quilts of Valor go to local vets

Special to the Enquirer

A Morgan County chapter of the national Quilts of Valor foundation awards quilts to local veterans in honor of their service. Teresa Davidson, Michael Elam, George Hearring and Janis Temples are pictured after Elam and Hearring were awarded their handmade quilts in recognition of their service in the U.S. military. Hal “Buster” Lee, left, and Larry Thrasher pose for a photo with Davidson and Temples after they received their quilts. Quilts of Valor are “awarded,” not just passed out like magazines or videos, and send the message, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation,” according to founder Catherine Roberts. The organization is made up of 10,000 volunteer members across 600 groups in all 50 states, and more than 250,000 QOVs have been awarded to veterans throughout the United States and overseas.
