Marchbanks and Cartee leads Hartselle past Spain Park

Hartselle improved to 5-2 with a 44-34 win over the defending 7A state champions, Spain Park, on Tuesday night.

The Tigers took a 6-4 lead in the first behind two three-pointers from Masyn Marchbanks. Spain Park battled back in the second to tie the game at 14-14, heading into halftime.

Hartselle dominated the third quarter both offensively and defensively. The Tigers held the Jaguars to just five points in the quarter and forced 13 turnovers, which led to 15 points. Hartselle outscored Spain Park 20-5 to take a commanding 34-19 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers held on for the win despite the Jaguars finishing the game on a 15-10 run.

Hartselle (5-2) was led by Masyn Marchbanks, who scored a game-high 17 points and finished with seven steals, six assists, and four rebounds. Lillyanna Cartee added 13 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.

Gracie Hill had five points, while Hailey Holshouser added four points, four steals, four assists, and two rebounds. Maggie McCleskey finished with three points, four steals, three rebounds, and four assists. Rounding out the scoring was Emma Roden with two points, two rebounds, and two steals. Millie Evans hauled down two rebounds.

Spain Park (9-3) was led by Jordy Griggs, who finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Haley Russell added eight points, nine rebounds, and four steals.
