Feeding Families to hold drive thru toy giveaway
The volunteers of Feeding Families of Alabama are working hard to bring some Christmas joy to area children despite the challenges the coronavirus pandemic presents.
Instead of the traditional toy giveaway, Feeding Families will hold a drive through toy event Dec. 18-19 from 5-7 p.m.
“We wanted to be careful due to Covid, and try to maintain social distancing, but didn’t want all these kids to miss out on the beauty of Christmas,” Feeding Families director Edee Grunn said.
“We are decorating all of Mt. Tabor grounds, and the families will be able to drive through, see all the lights, we will hand out treat bags to every car and each child will receive a gift. Santa Claus will be on the church porch with some of his elves to wave at the kids.”
Grunn said there will be a live nativity scene at the end of the drive thru event. “We have invited all businesses, clubs, churches, organizations, to adopt a section of the grounds and put up a Christmas display,” she added. “We would really love to get our whole community involved and make the Christmas Drive Through a fun and magical experience for the kids. Everyone is having such a tough time this year, and what better way to ease the strain for everyone, adults and children alike, even if it is for just a little while?
