Opinion-less Christianity

By Todd Barrier

I recently heard someone say you are entitled to your own opinion but not to your own set of facts.

This is a very true statement. It can be used in just about any situation in life.

We can have our opinion about things, but our opinion isn’t necessarily a fact.

Unfortunately, in the world of religion, opinion has become fact in many people’s eyes. We take things from the Bible and form an opinion about them out of context, just to suit our own point of view. Even worse, we sometimes have an opinion and ignore what the Bible says to be able to keep that opinion.

The bottom line is, if we want a true relationship with God, we have to have what I call “opinionless Christianity.

This means being so serious about our commitment to Christ that we leave all preconceived notions to the side and study the Bible for our answers, trusting His word enough to let that form our worldview.

In Hebrews 4:12 we are reminded of how powerful the Word of God is. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

In Matthew 4:4 we are told God’s Word is what should feed us and guide us! “But he answered, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

Are you living your life based on the opinions you’ve formed outside of Christ or within His Word?
