Falkville creams Section 53-0 for Region 7 win

Class 2A No. 9 Falkville traveled to Section for the Blue Devils’ third straight road game Friday night, a Region 7 matchup with the Lions. The Blue Devils scored on their first five possessions in their 53-0 victory over Section (3-3, 2-2).

Christian Angulo put Falkville out in front with a one-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. He extended the Blue Devils’ lead to 13-0 on their next possession with less than three minutes to go in the first.

Falkville added to their lead in the second on a Peyton Sallee 50-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt King and a 34-yard Angulo touchdown run. The Blue Devils entered halftime leading 26-0.

Sallee hit Wyatt Tomlin for a 23-yard touchdown pass early in the third to extend the lead to 32-0. Angulo’s second 34-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 39-0 before the end of the third quarter.

Falkville added two more scores in the fourth to make the final score 53-0: the first on a Mikell Philyaw 22-yard run and the second on a Caden Burnett 11-yard run late in the fourth.

“We played well on both sides of the ball, but we still have plenty of issues to correct in order to be a more complete team,” said Falkville head coach Tyler Mitchell. “The defense executed at a high level in getting our third shutout of the season.”

The Blue Devil offense finished with 432 yards of total offense while holding Section to 58 yards.

Falkville ran for 291 yards with Angulo leading the way with 156 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 13 carries. Luke Fitzgerald added 60 yards on four carries.

Sallee passed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, completing seven of 10 passes.

Falkville (6-0, 3-0) will be home for the first time in a month Thursday, hosting Tanner (4-3, 2-2) in a Region 7 matchup.
