Blue Devils continue impressive start to season with win at Cold Springs

Falkville traveled to Bremen Friday for a matchup against Cold Springs (3-2). The Blue Devils were coming off a bye week after opening the season with four wins – and they added another tally in the W column.

Falkville didn’t show any rust from the time off, as the Blue Devils jumped out to a 28-0 lead following the first quarter. They extended their lead to 37-0 before halftime.

The Blue Devils scored points in the first half on the ground, through the air, and on defense. Christian Angulo and Jordan Greenfield had touchdown runs while Andrew Jones and Wyatt King scored on passing plays. On the defensive side, Lorenzo Ochoa had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and the defense had a tackle in the end zone for a safety.

The Blue Devils pushed their lead to 43-0 before the Cold Springs Eagles scored their first points of the game. Falkville led 49-7 heading into the fourth quarter, and the Eagles added a late score to make the final score 49-13.

Angulo and Lawson Tew added scoring runs in the second half.

The Blue Devils finished with 407 total yards, 274 yards rushing and 133 yards passing.

Angulo ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Peyton Sallee passed for 114 yards and two touchdowns, while Jones had one reception for 59 yards and a score.

Luke Fitzgerald led the defensive effort with eight tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Wyatt Tomlin finished with six tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

“Tonight was a great team win,” said Falkville head coach Tyler Mitchell. “Peyton Sallee made some really good decisions and put the team in position to be successful.

Falkville (5-0, 2-0) returns to Class 2A, Region 7 action Friday at Section (3-2, 2-1). The game will be the third straight away game for the Blue Devils, who haven’t played at home since they defeated Whitesburg Christian 38-0 Sept. 4.
