Christian Angulo ran for 178 yards and five touchdowns in leading the Falkville Blue Devils to a road win at Pisgah Friday night. 

Angulo scored all of the Blue Devils’ touchdowns in the first half as they raced out to a 27-0 lead. He finished the first half with 114 yards rushing, 34 yards receiving, and an interception. 

Pisgah scored with 43 seconds left in the first half to cut the lead to 27-7. 

After a short kickoff, the Blue Devils quickly moved into Pisgah territory. A 34-yard pass from Peyton Sallee to Angulo set Falkville up for a final scoring chance from the 12-yard line. Jordan Greenfield kicked a 29-yard field goal to give the Blue Devils a 30-7 lead at halftime. 

Angulo added his fifth touchdown early in the third quarter to push the lead out to 37-7, and with 5:22 left in the third quarter, Sallee connected with Mikell Philyaw on a 46-yard touchdown pass to extend the Falkville lead to 43-7. 

The Blue Devils saw Pisgah drive inside their 10-yard line before the Falkville defense forced a turnover on downs at the five-yard line. The Blue Devils capitalized on the turnover when Sallee connected with Andrew Jones for an 81-yard touchdown pass to make it 50-7 at the end of the third quarter. 

Falkville added three final points with a Greenfield 22-yard field goal with 6:52 left, and Pisgah added a late touchdown drive to make the final score 53-14. 

“We played a better overall game this week, even though we gave up some points defensively,” said Falkville head coach Tyler Mitchell. 

The two touchdowns for Pisgah were the first points scored on the Falkville defense this season. 

Falkville finished with 486 total yards, 239 yards rushing and 247 yards passing. The Blue Devils’ defense gave up 194 total yards, including 66 yards on the ground. 

Sallee finished 11 of 15 for 235 yards passing and two touchdowns. Jones had 116 yards receiving on four catches, while Philyaw had 66 yards on three catches. 

Falkville (4-0, 2-0) will be off this week before heading to Cold Springs for a non-region game Sept. 25. 

Mitchell said his team is in a good spot health-wise as they head into the break. 

“We need a week to work on us, and this week will give us that,” said Mitchell. “We still have plenty of things to work on to keep getting better as a team.”
