Dale Leroy Schrom 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Dale Leroy Schrom, 84, was held Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, Indiana.  

Mr. Schrom died Aug. 30 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 31, 1936, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Art Dean Schrom and Eve Stettler Schrom. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jacqueline Arbuckle.  

Mr. Schrom was an avid amateur radio operator, weather spotter in Plymouth, Indiana, and he loved working in his woodworking shop.  

Survivors include his wife, Samia Schrom; two daughters, Chris Schrom Hulse (Ron) and Sheila Schrom Alexander (Paul); two brothers, Arthur Schrom (Gerry) and Buzz Rogers (Judy); 16 grandchildren; and 11 great–grandchildren. Peck Funeral Home assisted the family. 

Patricia Black Moore 

Hartselle 

Patricia Black Moore, 75, passed away Aug. 31 at her residence.  

She was born March 16, 1945, in Panama City, Florida, to Melvin Ethridge Black and Vera Nell Vice Black. She graduated from Morgan County High School as the salutatorian of the class of 1963. She then went to Athens State University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She was employed as a secretary for Monsanto/Solutia prior to her retirement.  

She attended the Flint Church of Christ. She was married to her husband, Jimmy Moore, for 42 years. For enjoyment, she loved gardening, music and reading.  

She donated her body to medical science.  

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Elaine Keliher; her parents; and a brother, Charles Black.  

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Hobson Moore; one daughter, Melissa Ann Moore Wright (Jeremy); two sons, John Scott Keliher and Keith Patrick Keliher; two sisters, Janet Owens and Janice Moon; and five grandchildren, Austin Keliher, Tymberleigh Keliher, Eli Wright, Ethan Wright and Vivianne Wright.  

Pallbearers were family and friends.  

Special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Southern Care New Beacon Hospice for their exceptional care and help throughout Pat’s battle with ALS. Caregivers Amanda Johnson, Leslie Hood, Sheniqua Steele and Christina Owens, thank you for incredible service and loving Pat as your own. To Tymberleigh Nicholle Keliher, thanks for her willingness to help care for her grandmother during this difficult time.

Dorothy “Dottie” Clark 

Falkville 

Dorothy “Dottie” Clark, 83, passed away Aug. 31 at her residence.  

She was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Indiana to Frances Marion Koon and Vivian Esther Opdyke. She was employed at Monsanto in Ligonier for many years and retired from Eaton in the quality control department.  

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Pratt; a brother, Lenny Koon; and her parents. 

Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Miller and Becki Knott; two sons, James Gregg and Daniel Gregg; two sisters, Phyliss Warner and Harriet Rose; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great–grandchildren. 

Larry W. Champion 

Somerville 

Funeral service for Larry W. Champion, 54, was held Sept. 4 at noon at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Center Springs Cemetery.  

Mr. Champion died Aug. 31 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Oct. 28, 1965, in Morgan County to Johnnie Paul Champion and Angie Champion. He was employed by Terrell Industries and was a member of the Valhermoso Baptist Church. He was an avid Alabama fan and loved his video fans and talking on the phone. He really enjoyed fishing. He loved his family dearly and was a friend to everybody. He never complained about his physical disabilities.  

Preceding him in death were his father, Johnnie Champion; a sister, Barbara Fricks; and a brother-in-law, Larry Leathers.  

Survivors include his mother, Angie Champion, Somerville; one sister, Nancy Leathers, Somerville; three brothers, John Champion (Kathy), Decatur, Harold Champion (Becky), Madison, and Maverick Champion (Tammy), Athens; one brother-in-law, Robert Fricks, Falkville; and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

Pallbearers were Richie Leathers, Jason Leathers, T.K. Champion, Nathan Champion, Charles Fricks, Matthew Shelton and Toby Clark. 

Ellen “DeeDee” Hemphill 

Danville 

Ellen “DeeDee” Hemphill passed away Sept. 2 at her residence.  

She was born Aug. 21, 1944, in New Jersey to Jack Leslie Cairns and Edith Caroline Dunn Cairns. She was employed as a nurse with Skilcare Nursing Home prior to her retirement.  

She was preceded in death by her parents.  

Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Wilson (Michael), Danville; one son, Myke Hemphill (Jesse), Utah; one brother, Jack Cairns (Irene), Virginia; two sisters, Barbara Specht (Denis), New Jersey, and Judith Cairns, Danville; and eight grandchildren, Tyler Wilson, Abigail Hemphill, Austin Wilson, Brady Wilson, Lilith Hemphill, Drake Hemphill, Ryder Wilson and Paisley Wilson.  

A memorial service will be held at a later date by her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. 

William C. “W.C.” Brown 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for William C. “W.C.” Brown, 70, was held Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alan Queen and Bro. Roger Ammons officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hopewell Baptist Cemetery.  

Mr. Brown died Sept. 2 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1949, in Morgan County to James Cecil Brown and Martha Ann Stephenson Brown.  

W.C. worked for Winn Dixie 33 years. Following his retirement in 1999, he and Joann moved to Sevierville, Tennessee, where he worked part time for Food City Grocery for 14 years.  

W.C. was the chairman of deacons and the adult Sunday school teacher at Tunsel Road Baptist Church, where he was a member for the past five years. He loved his family and the Lord with all his heart. He was an active church member his whole life.  

W.C. was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and faithful Christian. He will be missed by all who knew him.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Allen Brown and David Brown.  

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joann Luke Brown, Hartselle; one son, William Mark Brown (Beverly); one daughter, Kimberly Brown Crowe (Tommy); two brothers, Jimmy Brown and Mike Brown; three sisters, Ann Stracener, Sandra Flowers and Pam Brakefield; and four grandchildren, Chanler Cantor (Daniel), Tanner Brown, Briley Brown and Bo Brown.  

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Tanner Brown, Bo Brown and Daniel Cantor, and his nephews. Honorary pallbearers were his classmates of Danville High School class of 1967. 

Timothy John Cuyle 

Hartselle 

A memorial service for Timothy John Cuyle, 56, was held Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hal Daigre officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mr. Cuyle died Sept. 2 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born May 28, 1964, in California to Robert Emerson Cuyle Sr. and Laura Jane Boling Cuyle. Mr. Cuyle was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a heavy equipment operator with Isabel Construction.  

Mr. Cuyle was preceded in death by his parents.  

He loved to fish, loved his dogs, especially Jake, and loved the outdoors. He loved to preach and was a wonderful brother, uncle and friend.  

Survivors include son Josh Smith, brother Robert Cuyle, sister Bobbie Cuyle, nieces Brandy Quattlebaum (Stephen) and Christina Southerland and nephews Tommy Cuyle (Kari), Marcelino Garza and Nick Gardner. 

Bonnie Faye Greene Hayes 

Hartselle 

Bonnie Faye Greene Hayes, 85, of Hartselle died Sept. 2 at NHC Healthcare, Moulton. She was born March 23, 1935, in Shelby County to Grover and Mildred Greene. She was a graduate of Montevallo High School and St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Birmingham.  

Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, the Rev. William Robert Hayes. Together they proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving as pastor and wife to eight churches in Georgia and Alabama and interim to two churches in Alabama. They also served in several mission capacities, including Seaman’s House in Savannah, Georgia, bookbinding in Mobile, native church summer pastorate in Ekwok, Alaska, and various missions in the Superstition Mountains foothills and Tonto village, both in Arizona.  

Mrs. Hayes was a registered nurse, working in various settings. She retired after 18 years as nursing supervisor for physical, mental, environmental and dental health for the district health department in Douglassville, Georgia. In later years she enjoyed working in her yard and traveling. She was a member of East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle, participating in Sunday School, The Happy Highlanders and Food, Fun, and Fellowship senior groups.  

Mrs. Hayes was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Greene; and a sister, Edna Marzoni.  

She is survived by three sons, Robert Earl Hayes (Ruth), Tucson, Arizona; William Randall Hayes (Sue), Hartselle; David Bryan Hayes (Sally), Powder Springs, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Rosemary Gray, North Dallas, Georgia, Marianne Campbell, Hartselle, Amy Hayes, Atlanta, Erin Hayes, Hartselle, Luke Hayes, Tucson, Arizona, and Patrick Hayes and Nicole Brown, Tempe, Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Addison Campbell, Caden Campbell and Bonnie Gray.  

There will be a graveside service at Ryan Baptist Church in Montevallo at a later date.  

Memorials may be made to East Highland Baptist Church Building Fund or to Gideons International.

Gwen Jones 

Hartselle 

Graveside service and interment for Gwen Jones, 73, were held Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Jamie Roden officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mr. Jones died Sept. 3 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1947, in Morgan County to Adrain Gordon “A.G.” Jones and Jean Garner Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents.  

He was a 1965 graduate of Morgan County High School, a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church and a member of Communication Workers of America. He was a Vietnam veteran from 1968-1969 with A Co. 2nd Bn. 35 Inf. 4th Division.  

Survivors include his wife, Venita White Jones, Hartselle; son, Matt Jones (Mitzi), Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter, Jill Jones Brown (Sam), Hartselle; sister, Cheri Harden (Bill), Gardendale; sister, Renee Ragsdale (Skip), Gardendale; sister, Sonya Beeson, Gardendale; two step-grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathy Goodwin, Hartselle; nephew, Franklin White Goodwin, Hartselle; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregivers Tina Kritner and Janice Goodwin. 

Honorary pallbearers were Don Sims, Gary White, Hoyt White, Bo Ragsdale, Frank Goodwin, Alex Brown and Anthony Wallace.
