Funeral service for Ima Rhea Gobble Chunn, 87, was held May 24 at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso First Christian Church with the Rev. Zeke Haselden and Bro. Mike Mangum officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Chunn died May 22 at her residence. She was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Waynesboro County, Tennessee, to Hubert Franklin Gobble and Ruby Eunice (Angle) Gobble. She was a medical secretary for Dr. McGehee in Huntsville for 40 years working in pediatrics prior to her retirement. Mrs. Chunn was baptized at Valhermoso First Christain Church and attended Cotaco United Methodist. She loved to cook for everyone, especially her family. She was an avid Alabama football fan and followed Bear Bryant and the team loyally, and she loved her Braves also. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frederick Chunn, and a son, Darryl Chunn, and her parents.

Her family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Encompass Hospice of Decatur for their love and compassionate care.

Survivors include two sons, Frederick Gaylon Chunn (Vicki) and Jeffrey Scott Chunn (Lisa); one daughter, Denise Chunn Lenox (Jeff); two brothers, Billy Gobble and Larry Gobble; one sister, Joan Rehbein; six grandchildren, Leann Chunn, Jessica Chunn, Robin Keller, Amy Hamilton, Matthew Chunn and Preston Lenox; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bo Ballinger, Jimmy Chunn, Jackie Huskey, Tim Jennings, Jeff Lenox and Danny West. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Jennings, Billy Oakes and Bill Russell. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Valhermoso Springs Cemetery Fund.

Joyce Heath Weaver

Sevierville, Tennessee

Joyce Heath Weaver, 80, passed away peacefully April 9 at her home in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Funeral service was held at Lebanon Baptist Church in Falkville, Alabama May 30 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour before the service. The service was officiated by Mrs. Weaver’s sons: Bill Weaver, pastor of First Baptist Church of Altamont, Illinois, and Robert Weaver, pastor of Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia, Illinois.

Mrs. Weaver was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, the daughter of O.B. Heath and Alberta Driggers Heath. After graduating from Jordan High School in 1957, Mrs. Weaver became a secretary in Columbus, Georgia.

Mrs. Weaver married Elton Luther Weaver, son of Willie Wilson Weaver and Mary Florence Hill, Nov. 5, 1961, in Columbus, Georgia. After marriage, Mrs. Weaver moved to Hartselle and lived in the Massey community on Lee Road for more than 50 years before moving to Sevierville, Tennessee, in 2016.

Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker while her children were young. In the late 1970s, Mrs. Weaver became secretary of Falkville High School in Falkville until she retired after 15 years of service.

Mrs. Weaver was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church of Falkville for more than 50 years, where she served as Sunday School worker, deacon’s wife, children’s church worker, WMU secretary and other positions as needed.

Mrs. Weaver loved to read books of all genres and enjoyed following sports of all kinds.

Mrs. Weaver is survived by her sons, Bill Weaver and wife Angie of Altamont, Illinois, and Robert Weaver and wife Michelle of Vandalia, Illinois; daughter Kathy Weaver of Sevierville, Tennessee; grandchildren Jonathan Weaver and wife Amber, Lydia Laughlin and husband Josh, Bethany Young and husband Matt

and Nathaniel Weaver; great-grandchildren Silas, Corrie Rose and Haddon Weaver and Jackson and Sawyer Laughlin; and brother Frank Heath of Cataula, Georgia.

Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Weaver; her parents, O.B. and Alberta Heath; and grandson Angel Weaver.

Deveart Gene King

Valhermoso Springs

Deveart Gene King, 71, of Valhermoso Springs passed away May 23 at his residence. He was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Morgan County to Ambrose Nathaniel King and Tommie Betsy DeArmond King.

There was no service.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He retired from 3M after 33 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a good husband and father. He was also a member of the American Legion at Union Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Marie King; son, Nick (Tonya) King; and brother, Major King.

Bonnie Elaine Beck

Hartselle

A graveside service for Bonnie Elaine Beck, 77, of Hartselle was held May 27 at 2 p.m. in Nelson Hollow Cemetery with Melvin Mears and Matt Nail officiating.

Mrs. Beck was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Morgan County to Myrtle James Hann and Alvin B. Hann. She passed away May 24 at her residence. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Beck; daughter, Linda Chambers; and her brothers, Wayne Hann and Donald Hann.

She is survived by her sons, Donald Williams of Indiana, Dewey Wayne Beck of Hartselle, Danny Ray Beck(Kerri) of Danville, Darrell “Pewee” Beck of Hartselle and Lee Chastain of Arley; daughter Maudie Hudson (Randy) of Hayden; brother Rodger Hann of Fyffe; sisters Carolyn Givens of Oneonta and Pam Hann of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Carpenter, Scott Chastain, Shannon Chastain, Albert Beck, Walker Beck, Andrew Beck, Patrick Beck and Nathan Losey.

Martha Lillian Whitman Taul

Hartselle

Martha Lillian Whitman Taul passed away May 23.

She was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Cullman to Leonard N. Whitman and Lottie Sherrill Whitman. They moved to Hartselle when she was 13. Graduating from Morgan County High School in 1941, she attended Montevallo College. During World War II, she worked at the Courtland Airbase, where she met and married Charles Hill Taul. They had two daughters, whom she raised alone after Charles died in 1966.

A member of the First Baptist Church in Hartselle for 84 years, she sang in the choir from age 16 to 88 and served as Sunday School teacher, Prayer Group member and Helping Hands volunteer. She volunteered for The Caring Place for more than 20 years, retiring at 97.

She retired from Hartselle Medical Center in 1984 after 26 years as a medical records technician.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include daughters Charlsa Ly Taul Perdew (David) and Candice Anne Taul Williams (Ben); grandchildren Hannah Williams and Jacob Williams (Morgan); and three step-grandchildren.

A Life Celebration was held at First Baptist Church in Hartselle, May 27, at 11 a.m.

Shirley Faye Garrison Day

Somerville

Graveside service for Shirley Faye Garrison Day, 80, of Somerville was held May 27 at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Day, who was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Morgan County to James Mize Garrison and Wynola Harvel Garrison, died May 25 at her residence. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved each one dearly! She was a homemaker and loved growing and working in her flowers.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Gerald Day Sr.; a son, William Gerald Day Jr. (Christi); a daughter, Dee Dee McCutcheon; two sisters, Nancy Garrison Looney (Bobby) and Judy Garrison Smith (Doug); four grandchildren, Chandler Day, Sydney Day, Wesley McCutcheon (Rebecca) and Wade McCutcheon; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jacob McCutcheon.

Gary Day, Gaylon Day, Greg Day, Bobby Looney, Doug Smith and Jeremy Johnson served as pallbearers.

Tammy Renee Smith

Ms. Smith died May 24. She was born Aug. 16, 1969, in Morgan County to Owen McNeil Smith and Louise Kenney.

She was a retail clerk for Value Village.

She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Teresa Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Justine Morgan (Billy); her mother, Louise Kenney; and two grandchildren, Willow Morgan and Maggie Morgan.

Teresa Lynn Smith

Danville

Funeral service for Teresa Lynn Smith, 53, was held May 29 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Ms. Peters died May 24. She was born May 25, 1966, in Morgan County to Owen McNeil Smith and Louise Kenney. She was employed as the office manager of Valley Budweiser.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Tammy Renee Smith.

Survivors include her mother, Louise Kenney; three daughters, Crystal Hagen (Johnny Nix), Jessica Puckett, (Cody Kemp Sr.) and Ashley Maples (Roger Knight); and six grandchildren, Cameron Watkins, Dominic Key, Jeremy Jenkins, Haleyn Puckett, CJ Kemp and Zoey Miller.

William “Bill” Aldredge

Decatur

A private graveside funeral service and interment for William “Bill” Aldredge, 80, was at Shoal Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Coomer officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Aldredge died May 26 at his residence. He was born March 12, 1940, in Virginia to Alonzo William Aldredge and Thelma Ocie Lawrence Aldredge.

He was employed with TVA as an electrical engineer and retired after 30 years of service. He served in the Coast Guard in the Vietnam War.

Mr. Aldredge was a loving man who enjoyed life, little children and dogs and had a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Aldredge; a son, John Aldredge; and his parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Aldredge and Rebecca Aldredge; two stepdaughters, Annette Mitchell and Leslie O’dell; a brother, Doug Aldredge; two sisters, Phyllis Scott and Connie Webb; and several grandchildren.

Special thanks from the family to Will and Harley, two of his grandchildren, for taking care of their grandfather.

Christopher Wayne Sharp

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service and interment for Christopher Wayne Sharp, 44, were held May 29 at 9 a.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery, with the Rev. I.V. Marsh officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Sharp died May 26 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1976, in Morgan County to Larry Wayne Sharp and Victoria B. Collins Sharp. He worked as a server for Princeton’s of Decatur and was a floor manager for the Books-a-Million in Huntsville prior to being diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

He loved reading books and was a computer genius. He enjoyed Star Trek and all things about space travel.

He was a 1994 graduate of Hartselle High School with an advanced diploma and was a member of Mrs. Wanda Thompson’s High School Choral Performers.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Victoria B. Collins Sharp; one brother, Matthew Lee Sharp; one niece, Caitlin Elizabeth Sharp; and one nephew, Aaron Lee Sharp.

Kathy Gillespie Prater

Danville

A graveside funeral service and interment for Kathy Gillespie Prater, 70, were held May 30 at 2 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery, south of Danville, with Bro. Steve Ledbetter and Bro. Francis Proctor officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Prater died May 27 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Lawrence County to James E. Gillespie and Nelda McClemore Gillespie.

Kathy attended Enon Baptist Church. She was a homemaker for her family and a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working on the family farm.

She was a graduate of Speake High School, Class of 1968.

Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her high school classmates, family and friends for the love and support given during her illness.

Preceding her in death were her father, James Gillespie, and a sister, Virginia Gillespie. Survivors include her husband, Danny Prater; one son, Colton Prater (Amanda); her mother, Nelda McClemore Gillespie; one brother, Fred Gillespie (Imogene); two grandchildren, Garrett Prater and Ryan Prater; and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon Garner Horton-Woodruff

Cullman

A memorial service for Sharon Garner Horton-Woodruff, 55, was held May 31 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Woodruff died May 28. She was born Oct. 2, 1964, in Morgan County to James Jackson Garner and Margarue Owen Garner.

Sharon was a graduate of Hartselle High School, Class of 1982. She erned her bachelor’s degree in health information management from Stephens College. She enjoyed her work in medical records at Parkway Medical Center and Hospice of the Valley and most especially her role as graduation coach and in her work in health information technology at Wallace State Community College.

She was preceded in death by two husbands – Glenn Horton, husband of 29 years, who passed away in 2013, and Tony Woodruff, husband of five years, who passed away in 2019 – and her father, Jack Garner.

Survivors include her daughter, Jessica Murray (Philip) of Hayden, and her mother, Margarue Owen Garner of Hartselle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glenn Horton Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wallace State Community College.

Norman Gene Bonds

A graveside funeral service and interment for Norman Gene Bonds, 54, were held May 31 at 2:30 p.m. at Valhermoso Springs Cemetery with Bro. Tim Patrick officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bonds died May 24 at Jackson Hospital. He was born Oct. 21, 1965, in Morgan County to Gene Bonds and Frances Bonds. He was employed as a construction worker and masonry block layer. His father preceded him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Frances Bonds; one daughter, Tamara Bonds; one sister, Patricia “Sissy” Prater; and one grandchild, Abbie Taylor. Pallbearers were Gunner Prater, Bradley Prater, Cleon Timmons, Billy Russell, Dewayne Speegle, Langston Worley and Eric Prater.
