TitleRoy Digs Dirt

Author: David Shannon

Reading level: Kindergarten through first grade

Roy Digs Dirt is one of our new books by author David Shannon, who also writes the No! David books.  Roy Digs Dirt is about this cute dog who loves dirt. He thinks dirt makes him look more handsome. He thinks just about everything is better with dirt on it or in it. He loves to bury treasures and, of course, dig up treasures. This is a fun readaloud book.

The website Babies to Bookwormsbabiestobookworms.com, has some excellent educational ideas for using this book. I really like the idea of reading it to discuss gardening or talk about our senses. Roy likes to use all of his senses when digging in dirt. This is also a great opportunity to discuss the dual meaning of “dig.”

I have done a virtual story time with this book on the Huie Library League Youtube channel. Hope you can join us! Happy reading!

Reviewer: Patricia Poe

Title: “Me & Patsy, Kickin’ Up Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline

Author: Loretta Lynn

The newest biography at the William Bradford Huie Library of Hartselle is by Loretta Lynn, detailing her friendship with the late Patsy Cline. Patsy and Loretta became country music legends in Nashville in the early 1960s. They bonded over their music, their children and the shared problems of being in a maledominated setting. This book is a wonderful account of a friendship that ended too soon.

We hope to see you soon. Happy reading.
