Bobby Joe Garrison

Falkville

A graveside funeral service and interment for Bobby Joe Garrison, 77, were held April 1 at 2 p.m. at Falkville City Cemetery with Bro. Jamie McMinn and Bro. David Hale officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Garrison died March 29 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1942, in Colbert County to William Joe Garrison and Geneva Vest Garrison. He was a self-employed contractor-homebuilder and was a law enforcement officer prior to retirement.

He was a faithful member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a police officer in Fillmore, Calif., and was police chief for the City of Falkville. He loved to fish and to eat at Mister Henry’s, and he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grands.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxey Nell Garrison, his parents and a brother, Bernard Garrison.

Survivors include four sons, William Garrison (Teena), Terry Max Lambert (Melissa), John Garrison (Missy) and James Samuel Garrison (Chelsea); three daughters, Tracy Anderson (Terry), Wendy Hale (David) and Christy Fritz (Barry); a brother John Wayne Garrison; and a sister, Erma Jean Wilson; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Thomas Tanner, Steven Woodland, Dexter Ellard, Judd Baker, Seth Gee and Thomas Hopkins.

Bobby Gann

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service and Interment for Bobby Gann, 93, were held April 1 at 11 a.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Gann passed away March 29 at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Morgan County to George Westley Gann and Winnie Gertrude Byars Gann.

Survivors include his son, Jimmy Gann (Gale), his daughter, Janie G. Hart (John) and granddaughter Carrie Ward.

Bobby was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, of 62 years; his parents; his identical twin brother Billy Gann; and his sister, Sue Reeves Miles.

Bobby was born in Morgan County Jan. 17 to the late George Wesley Gann and Winnie Gertrude Byars Gann. He was a Baptist and was retired from AT&T with 33 years of service. After retirement, he spent time helping others. He also loved fixing clocks and old telephone equipment.

The family extends special appreciation to Dr. Sarah Styers, Val and Terri for their loving care. Also special thanks to Meals on Wheels, especially Jack Templeton and Dennis Booth. In addition, special gratitude goes out to Tim Waldrop for his friendship.

Kenneth Dewayne Vest

Priceville

A graveside funeral service and interment for Kenneth Dewayne Vest, 60, was April 2 at 11 a.m. at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Moulton with Bro. Charles Williams officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Vest died March 26 at his residence. He was born April 19, 1959, in Morgan County to Ernest Lee Vest and Nira Jean Terry. He was employed as a driver for Garrison Trucking and was a supporter of the food bank at Mt. Tabor, recently donating 4,500 pounds of potatoes. He was a good-hearted person and told the corniest of jokes. He loved to fish in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Vest; his mother, Jean Vest; his stepmother, Paulette Vest; a sister, Brenda Vest; and a brother, Mark Haywood. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Vest; two brothers, Eugene Vest (Brenda) and David Vest (Janice); two sisters, Traci Slate (David) and Patsy Haywood; and four grandchildren, Brissa Vega, Ashton Sivley, Kaylee Mann and Hank Wolford.

The family served as pallbearers.

Howard “Big Moe” Seymore

Hartselle

Howard “Big Moe” Seymore, 59, of Hartselle, died April 1. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Seymore was born March 30, 1961, in Georgia to Howard Seymore Sr. and Louise Stokes Seymore. He was the owner and operator of Big Moe and Katie’s Concrete.

Mr. Seymore was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Geneva Denney; and a grandson, Michael Payne.

Survivors include his wife, Libby “Katie” Seymore; four sons, Travis Boyd, Shawn Seymore, Ricky Payne and Hank Payne; three daughters, Rose Watkins, Marie Osborn and Amanda Tello; one brother, Thomas Seymore; three sisters, Brenda Seymore, Linda Seymore and Wanda Seymore; 18 grandchildren; and a host of loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles to cherish his memories.

Hilda Ann Weeks

Falkville

Graveside service and interment for Hilda Ann Weeks, 71, were April 3 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Falkville with Bro. David Hale officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Weeks died March 31 at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born July 29, 1948, to John Sherman Steele and Roxie A. Smith Steele.

Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doug Weeks; two brothers, Sherrill and Ralph Steele; and one sister, Elizabeth Fields.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny Roberson and Tony Roberson (Casey); two brothers, Ricky Steele (Janet) and Gary Steele (Deloris); three sisters, Becky Talley (Dean), Dolly Wakefield and Sherie Steele (Terry); seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Bobby “Joe” Patterson

Hartselle

Bobby “Joe” Patterson, of Hartselle passed away March 24 at the age of 85 years old. He died peacefully within his home in Hartselle.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and Flaudie and Taft Patterson; sisters June and Peggy; brother Donald.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Aldridge) Patterson; son Phillip Patterson and his wife Candice Patterson; son Bobby Joe Patterson II and his wife Xing Li Patterson; daughter Nena Joann Patterson; brother Billy Patterson; and three grandchildren, Joshua Patterson, Haley Patterson and Joseph Patterson.

Joe was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Somerville. At a very young age he learned to work hard on a family farm.

He left home at the age of 15, deciding farming wasn’t his preferred choice in life. He moved to Michigan to find whatever job was available to support himself. After several years, he returned home to Hartselle.

Throughout his life he was an entrepreneur in several different businesses, from roofing and truck owner/operator to billiard hall owner, contractor and used car sales business owner.

Joe was known for his love of playing poker, trading and selling cars, Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was the family patriarch, a good provider to his family and a good, generous man that would help anyone in need.

He was loved by his wife, children and extended family. He will be greatly missed.

A private family memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Genean Ladd

Hartselle

Genean Ladd, 67, died March 31 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born March 16, 1953, in Kentucky to Nathaniel and Ruth Guess Mills.

Ms. Ladd was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel C. Ladd; and two brothers, Bobby Mills and Jeff Mills.

Ms. Ladd worked at Copeland prior to her retirement. She was a member of Grace Point Church.

The family will have a memorial service in Kentucky at a later date.

Survivors include one daughter, Milli Weaver (Whit); one sister, Lana McDonald; one brother, Marvin Mills; and six grandchildren, Brittany Weaver Madara (Matthew), Katelyn Weaver, Jill Ladd, Ema’lee Ladd, Valerie Ladd and James Clint Ladd.

Elsie Mae Coots Arnett

Knoxville

Elsie Mae Coots Arnett, 87, of Knoxville, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away April 4.

Elsie was born in Lacon in 1933 to George Coots and Ethel Yarbrough Coots. She retired from the TVA after many years of service. Elsie lived in Alabama, Chattanooga and most recently in Knoxville, where she could be closer to her children and precious grandchildren. She loved to cook, sew and garden.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John D. Arnett Jr., and her brother, John Coots.

Elsie is survived by her son, Dr. John D. Arnett III (Pam); daughter, Shelia D. Arnett; grandchildren, Emily and John David Arnett; brother, Lewis Coots; several nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.

Special thanks to Asbury Place (Chestnut) in Maryville, especially her nurses and caregivers.

Private graveside services were held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

George Ray Edwards

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service and interment for George Ray Edwards, 85, were held April 6 at 3 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Tom Campbell and Bro. Jack Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Edwards died April 4 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Morgan County to George Andrew Edwards and Gladys Singleton Edwards.

He lived his entire life at his home on Ironman Road and was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church since he put his trust in Jesus at a young age. He served in many jobs at Shady Grove, including teaching Sunday School and being a deacon for more than 50 years.

He graduated from Danville High School in 1953 and kept close friendships with most of his classmates over the years. He graduated from Athens College with an accounting degree in 1957 and went to work for Fruehauf Corporation, where he was employed for 42 years.

He served in the National Guard for six years. Ray loved to read, garden and travel, and he had a unique wit, funny sense of humor and a wonderful way of writing a story.

He loved to learn about missions across the world and was generous in supporting many different organizations that gave the message of Christ to a lost world.

Ray was always known in school for his good grades, intelligence and speedy typing skills, but throughout his life he has known as a godly man of character with true wisdom that comes from a strong relationship with the Lord and a lifelong reverence and study of God’s Word. He was a quiet man of integrity: humble, patient and kind.

He married Fay Sudduth in 1962, and they had two daughters, Mary Fay and Martha Ray. He was the best Daddy those two girls could ever have asked for, and though not perfect, he demonstrated to his girls how a man should live, especially in the way he loved their mother.

Ray and Fay had 45 years of marriage before her death in 2007, and though Fay might not have agreed, he insisted they never had an argument during all their time together. He always referred to her as “his jewel,” and she responded by spoiling him completely. He loved his family, but life was never the same after he couldn’t share it with her.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Fay; his parents; an infant brother, Charles Andrew Edwards; aunts, Evelyn and Kathryn Edwards; and an uncle, Willie Fred Edwards. The family will have a memorial service at a later date for the family and friends to cherish his memory.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Terry (Steve) and Martha Bowling (Mike); and six grandchildren, Andrew Terry, Rachel Lovell (Nick), Matthew Terry (Hannah), Reagan Bowling, Evan Bowling and Jacob Bowling, all of Hartselle.

Pallbearers were family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ray’s memory to the Gideon’s International, the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering or Meals on Wheels.

Betty Ann Bama
