Prep Basketball Scorebook: Danville wins the West Point Christmas Tournament

West Point Christmas Tournament

WEST POINT – Danville won the West Point Christmas Tournament by defeating the Warriors 71-64 on Saturday Afternoon.

The Hawks reeled off three straight wins to bring home the tournament championship. They started the tournament with wins over Cold Springs and Hayden.

KJ Melson hit six 3-pointers on his way to scoring a game-high 28 points for the Hawks. He averaged 27.3 points per game in Danville’s three games.

The Hawks led 41-36 at halftime.

Wren Cole finished with 20 points and six assists while Kohl Randolph added 15 points for Danville.

West Point (8-11) was led by Will Cochran, who finished with 21 points.

Danville (11-4) will take the floor again on January 4th against Rogers in the New Year’s Bash at Wallace State.

Hayden 77, Priceville 69: Hayden rallied from a 40-36 halftime deficit by outscoring Priceville 41-29 in the second half to defeat the Bulldogs.

Nathan Morgan led Hayden with 21 points while Silas Miller had 15 points. Collin Chapel added 14 points and nine assists for the Wildcats.

Priceville (3-13) was led by Trey Summers’ 15 points and five rebounds. Dylan Fry had 14 to go with Chris Thomas’ 13 for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs’ next game will be January 3rd at West Limestone.

Cold Springs 64, Falkville 48: Cold Springs jumped out to a 26-9 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back in their victory over Falkville in the team’s final game of the three-day tournament.

Cold Springs led 38-16 at halftime. Falkville cut the lead to six midway through the fourth before the Eagles pulled away for the victory.

The Blue Devils (1-10) were led by Gage Ruiz, who scored 12 points, and Colton Hooper, who had 10 points.

Brody Peppers and Tanner Kilgo each scored 14 to lead Cold Springs.

Girls Scores

Falkville 45, New Hope 37: Three players scored in double digits to lead Falkville to a victory over New Hope in the final game of the Tanner Christmas Tournament.

Makenzie Veal scored a game-high 14 points to lead Falkville, with Erika Johnson and Sydnee Fitzgerald each adding 10. Abby Speegle finished with nine for the Lady Blue Devils.

Falkville (11-5) led 19-11 at halftime.

New Hope (10-6) was led by Brianna Roberson’s 10 points.

Priceville 42, Hatton 33: Priceville won for the third time in four games at the Keith Davis Memorial Christmas Tournament when they defeated Hatton Saturday afternoon.

Priceville (10-7) was led by Jenna Walker, who finished with a game-high 13 points and seven assists. Zoey Benson had eight points and six steals while Natalie Cartee scored seven for the Lady Bulldogs.

Hatton (12-4) led 20-17 at halftime but was outscored by Priceville 25-13 in the second half.

Brianna Quails finished with 12 points to lead Hatton.

Anniston 57, Hartselle 25: Hartselle dropped their final game of the BallN Prep Holliday Invitational with a loss to Anniston.

Anniston led 26-14 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs held Hartselle to just 11 points in the second half as they pulled away for the victory.

Hartselle (9-9) was led by Kaitlyn Hogan’s six points. Maggie McCleskey and Masyn Marchbanks each scored four for the Lady Tigers.

Anniston (10-3) was led by Airranna Colley’s 20 points.
