John Gust 

Athens  

Funeral service for John Gust, 65, was Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Aaron Kretzschmar officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

He was laid in state from noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.  

Mr. Gust died Nov. 18 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 4, 1954, in Morgan County to Johann Theo Gust and Brigitte Holz Gust.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Johann Theo Gust.  

Mr. Gust was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired auto mechanic. 

Survivors include his mother, Brigitte Gust; sister, Heidi Holder; brothers Dieter Gust (Patricia) and Norbert Gust (Barbara); friend Tina Sparkman (significant other); nieces Crystal Webber,  

Diana Gust and Becky Dziedzic; nephews Kevin Gust and Shawn Holder; and great-nephew Riley. 

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Anthony “Tony” Rubin 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Anthony “Tony” Rubin, 76, was Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Ken Blackwood officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.   

Burial was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus, Miss., following the service at 3 p.m.  

Mr. Rubin died on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Mississippi to Sydney Samuel Rubin and Annie Laura Hunnicutt Rubin.  

He was a retired area accountant from IMC Fertilizer.  

Mr. Rubin was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Samuel Mathis Rubin; and one sister, Cydney Rubin Hudson. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Cole Rubin; daughter Edith Anne Rubin Teague (Bill); granddaughter Christina Elaine Teague; and grandson William Anthony Teague. 

Pallbearers were Tracy Cole, Jep Cole, Ryan Cole, Shawn Hudson, Chris Hudson and Tanny Crawford.    

Carolyn Sue Holaway Cook 

Moulton 

Private graveside service for Carolyn Sue Holaway Cook, 83, was Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery, with Bro. Clayton Speed officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mrs. Cook died Nov. 19 at Lawrence Medical Center. She was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Morgan County to Daniel Edmond Holaway and Virginia Crumby Holaway.  

Mrs. Cook worked briefly at Redstone Arsenal as a typist before getting married and becoming a homemaker. She devoted her life to her family. She loved to write poetry and had a few books published. She loved her grandchildren dearly and spent much of her spare time making scrapbooks for each one detailing their success in sports. She loved to work crossword puzzles and did major research on putting a family tree history book together.  

Mrs. Cook was a member of First Baptist Church Hartselle. 

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl P. Cook Jr.; and three brothers, Jimmy, Larry and Gerald Holaway. 

Survivors include two sons, Stan Cook (Sharon) of Enterprise and Van Cook of Danville; one Sister, Fay Miller of North Carolina; and four grandsons: Tyler Cook (Brandy), Moulton, and Nicklaus Cook, Preston Cook and Zachary Cook, all of Enterprise.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army. 

Elmer (Bubba) Morrow 

Lacey’s Spring 

Funeral service for Elmer (Bubba) Morrow, 47, was Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Holiness Church, with Bro. Corey Morrow officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  Burial was in Hough Cemetery.  

Mr. Morrow died Nov. 21 at Crestwood Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1972, in Lawrence County to Elmer Van Morrow Sr. and Ann Morrow Hall.  

Mr. Morrow was preceded in death by his father, Elmer V. Morrow Sr.; his grandparents, James T. and Maudie Morrow; and one brother, Keith V. Morrow.  

Bubba never had the privilege of having his own blood children, but God blessed him with the pleasure of many children he loved and adored. 

Survivors include his wife, Patti Ann Alldredge Morrow, his mother, Ann Morrow Hall; siblings Jamie Morrow (Tanya), Kenny Morrow, Anita Hill, Tina Gore (Mike), Rachel McCutcheon (Ricky) and Laquita Morrow; and many nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers were Ronald (Flip) Cox, Carter Morrow, Mark Whitaker, Dylan Thompson, Dusty Gore, Heath Swafford and Justin Oakes.   

Lavonia Stisher 

Falkville 

Funeral service for Lavonia Stisher, 86, of Falkville was Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Falkville, with Brother Steve Cannon and Brother Chuck Smith officiating. Burial was in the Holly Pond Cemetery. Peck Funeral Home directed.  

Mrs. Stisher, who was Sept. 6, 1933, in Cullman County to Taswell Nelson Allen and Viada Whatley Allen, died Nov. 21 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  

She was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Falkville and was a good neighbor who enjoyed helping those in need in her community and in her church family.  

She loved farm life – from raising her family to caring for farm animals, she enjoyed it all. She was an extended mother to all the friends of her children who came and spent time on the farm.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald Ross Stisher Sr., and a son, Ronald Ross Stisher Jr. 

She is survived by two sons, Don Allen Stisher (Van) and Douglas Lowell Stisher (Regina), and a daughter, Lisa Stisher Vest (Bryan), all of Falkville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
