Elijah Jay Skodachek

Hartselle

Funeral service for Elijah Jay Skodachek, 12, was Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Buddy Lemley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Elijah passed away Oct. 19 at Father Pearsall Memorial Children’s Center. He was born July 30, 2007, in Montgomery County to Randall Skodachek and Holly Doran. 

Survivors include father Randall Skodachek, mother Holly Doran, brothers Anthony Skodachek and Joseph Skodachek and sisters Sara Skodachek, Seeley Doran and Emma Skodachek.

 

Bonnie Steele Massey

Danville

Funeral service for Bonnie Steele Massey, 53, was Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Mayer officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Lebanon Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Massey died Oct. 17 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 23, 1966, in Florida to Williard “Bud” Steele and Brenda Faye Styles Mayer. She was a restaurant manager for Hardees prior to her passing. She was Christian in her faith and was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt.

Survivors include her husband, William Jeffrey Massey; two daughters, Brittany Steele Brady (Justin), Moulton, and Kayla Massey (Dylan Elrod), Danville; father and stepmother, Williard “Bud” Steele (Geraldine), Danville; mother and stepfather, Brenda Mayer (Ed), Decatur; one brother, Michael Steele (Susan), Somerville; one sister, Kelly Terry (Chris), Hartselle; three nephews, Dustin, Dakota and Bayley; five nieces, Tiffany, Kortney, Sallie, Reese and Juliette; two great-nephews; and eight great-nieces.

Pallbearers were Justin Brady, Dylan Elrod, Dewayne Fortenberry, Dakoda Steele, Bayley Steele and Dustin Steele.     

 

Geraldine Pike Cloer

Falkville

Funeral service for Geraldine Pike Cloer, 80, was Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Gunter, pastor Tim Taylor and Bro. Bobby Smith officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Mt Tabor Cemetery.

Mrs. Cloer died Oct. 20 at her residence. She was born April 12, 1939, in Morgan County to Lee Pike and Delores Johnson Pike. She was a member of Risen Church and spent a large part of her life witnessing for the Lord. She was employed at Copeland Corporation prior to her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hoyt Cloer; three children, Michael Hoyt Cloer, Regina Leigh Cloer and James Scott Cloer; and four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include one sister, Alice Dobbs Glenn; two grandchildren, Miles Cloer and Byron Cloer (Nicole); and one great-grandchild, Allison Cloer.

Pallbearers were family and friends.   

 

Jimmie Neal Derrick

Hartselle

Funeral service for Jimmie Neal Derrick, 81, was Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Kelley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Roundtop Cemetery.

Mr. Derrick died Oct. 20 at Falkville Health Care Center. He was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Morgan County to Raymond Leon Derrick and Eva Lorene Hill Derrick. He was a long-time member of 16th Avenue Baptist Church. He served four years (1956-1960) in the U.S. Air Force and worked for Army Space and Missile Command for 30 years with the Civil Service prior to his retirement. Mr. Derrick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Ann Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Derrick, Decatur; one son, Cory Derrick (Sarah), Auburn; two daughters, Dorinda Steele (Jason), Hartselle, and Danya  Sanders (Bob), Scottville, Mich.; one brother, Jerry Derrick, Pecan Gap, Texas; one sister, Doris Ridgeway, Decatur; and six grandchildren, Logan and Tyler Derrick, Jacob and Reagan Steele; and Colton and Maylan Sanders.

Pallbearers were Cory Derrick, Jason Steele, Bob Sanders, Tyler Derrick, Jacob Steele and Colton Sanders.   

Lilly Abigail Graham

Somerville

Funeral service for Lilly Abigail Graham, 11, was Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. at Somerville Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Stallings officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Her body was laid in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery at Eva.  

Lilly passed away Oct. 21 at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. She was born June 17, 2008, in Decatur, and was a student of Priceville Junior High School. She loved soccer, her animals and being competitive, but the most important things to her were God, her church, her family, her pets and always helping other people. 

She served on Hospitality and Setup for the ReFresh Church. 

Lilly always stood up for herself and others. She loved taking care of things, especially her animals.

She was a loving young girl who fought a long battle.

Preceding her in death was her grandfather, Neal Graham. 

Survivors include her father, Greg Graham; mother, Jennifer McClaine (Heath); one sister, Addison Graham; grandparents, Sue Graham, Gerald and Sheena Duggar and Ralph and Nita McClaine; and great-grandmother, Hazel McClaine.

Pallbearers were Pat Halbrooks, Elijah Halbrooks, Michael Childers, Jim Childers, Chris Dugger and Will Dugger.     

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

 

Gurney Harold Jones

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service and interment for Gurney Harold Jones, 93, were held Oct. 24 at 12:30 p.m. at  Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Bro. Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Mr. Jones died Oct. 21 at River City Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Morgan County to Henry Eddie Jones and Carrie Sue Callahan Jones. He was employed by Fruehauf Corporation for 35 years in the shipping department prior to his retirement.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Royer Jones; his parents; and a brother, Arnold Jones.

Survivors include his nephew, Willard Springer (Mavine), and nieces, Shirley Sherbahn (Wayne), Janice Moses (James) and Peggy Nelms (Clifford).

Pallbearers were his nephews.    

 

Cindy Yvonne Harmon

Decatur

Funeral service for Cindy Yvonne Harmon, 57, was Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Harmon died Oct. 20 at Erlanger Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 26, 1961, in Morgan County to Edward Riddle and Pocahontas Hill Riddle.  She was employed by Byrd Maintenance Company prior to her passing.  

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Dwight Riddle; and two sisters, Cathy Blaylock and Virginia Terry.

Survivors include one son, David O. Ryan; one daughter, Melissa Cortez; three brothers, James Riddle, Jerry Riddle and Gary Riddle; one sister, Joyce Monk (Rick); and three grandchildren, Payton Peebles, Braylen Ryan and Katelin Cortez.

Pallbearers were family and friends.     

Dorothy Ann Patton Orr
Hartselle
Funeral service for Dorothy Ann Patton Orr, 96, of Hartselle was held Oct. 22 at noon at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. Harold Thompson and the Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Interment followed in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Orr was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Jefferson County to Charles Gilette Patton and Beuna Vista Lambert Patton. She passed away Oct. 19 in Falkville.
She, along with her late husband Charles “C.L.” Orr, was the owner and operator of Orr Drapery Co. in Decatur. She was a member of  First United Methodist Church in Hartselle since 1946 and a member of the United Methodist Church Women. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Confederacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles “C.L.” Orr and six siblings.
She is survived by her sons, David Orr and wife Vennessia and John Pat Orr and wife Candy; daughter Dottie Orr Vines and husband Larry; grandchildren John David Orr Sr., Charles Allan Orr, John Wesley Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and Lurie Lynn Orr Hallford; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John David Orr Sr., Charles Allan Orr, John Wesley Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and James Gordon Hallford III.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the building fund of Hartselle First United Methodist Church, 210 East Hickory St., Hartselle, AL 35640, or to a favorite charity.

Gloria Jean Kelsey

Falkville

Funeral service for Gloria Jean Kelsey, 73, was Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Ammons and Bro. James Glover officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Her body was laid in state for one hour prior to the service.  

Mrs. Kelsey died Oct. 23 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Michigan to George Penoyer and Bernice Odelle Orlick Penoyer. She was an active member of the Falkville Senior Center and attended Pine Street Independent Baptist Church in Falkville for

more than 20 years. She also attended the Living Word Church of Hartselle for more than four  years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Terry Kelsey; her parents; her stepfather, Ronald Hood Sr.; a grandson, Shane Kelsey; and two great-grandchildren, Carson Burm and Callie Spivey.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Kelsey (Barbara) and Jerimy Kelsey (Tiffany); one daughter, Terrie Spivey (Barry); two brothers, Ronald Hood Jr. and David Penoyer; one sister, Patricia Pike; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

Gary F. Dutton

Falkville

Funeral service for Gary F. Dutton, 72, was Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Ammons and Bro. Floyd Bradford officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Private family burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.  

Mr. Dutton died Oct. 25 at his residence. He was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Cullman County to Ottis Millard (Bill) Dutton and Margie Louise Kelsoe Dutton.  

He was an owner/operator in the Trucking Industry and was a professional driver for 50 years prior to his retirement. 

Mr. Dutton loved his family dearly but also loved to travel and see the countryside. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Pine Street Independent Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gary Frankie Dutton Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Williams Dutton, Falkville; one son, Chris Dutton (Sherri), Falkville; one daughter, Rhonda Dutton Anders (Danny), Hartselle; two brothers, Kenneth Dutton (Brenda), Athens, and Oneal Dutton, Hanceville; two sisters, Anna Noah, Gardendale, and Schela Howell (John), Cullman; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Oneal Dutton, Tyler Anders, Caleb Anders, Jon Mason, Garren Wilhite and Jason Gurganus.     

 

Mary Ruth Terry

Decatur

Funeral service for Mary Ruth Terry, 80, of Decatur was Oct. 27 at 4:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was in the Andrews Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.  

She was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Morgan County to William Henry Dotson and Audrey Irene Turrentine Dotson. She passed away Oct. 25 at Hospice Family Care Center. She was a life-long member of First Holy Church of Christ in Decatur for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Teames Terry; and two brothers, Rabon and Alton Dotson.  

Mary worked at Mother’s Day Out at First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. 

Survivors include two sons, Roger Dale Terry (Cheryle) of Battleground and Dennis Wade Terry (Stephanie) of Decatur; two daughters, Reda Joan Terry (Rudy) of Moulton and Donna Carol Halcomb (Mitch) of Middleburg, Fla.; two brothers, Albert Dotson (Sarah) of Decatur and Virgil Dotson (Gail) of Decatur; sister, Janice Posey (Quinton) of Cullman; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Allen Dotson, Kenneth Dotson, Scott Dotson, Brandon Dotson, Cody Terry, Eugene Vest, Chris Shaw and Jake Scoggins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.

 

Roy Dale Stutts

Hartselle

Roy Dale Stutts, 68, of Hartselle passed away Oct. 25 in Hartselle. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He was the husband of Laura Stutts.
