Virginia Lorene Couch Burson

Hartselle

Funeral service for Virginia Lorene Couch Burson, 88, was Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Robert L. Kelly, Joshua Wood and Pastor Joey Coots officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. 

Mrs. Burson died Oct. 6 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Georgia to Bradie Cleo Couch and Myrtle Mae Peavy Couch. She was a homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. 

Preceding her in death were her husband, Archie J. Burson; her parents; and four brothers, James Edward Couch, Robert Lee Couch, Charles Matthew Couch and Johnnie Franklin Couch.

Survivors include three sons, Archie Jay Burson (Carol C.), Gary G. Burson (Connie) and Bradie L. Burson; two daughters, Euna Lancaster and Carolyn Terry (Ronnie); two sisters, Dorothy Couch Ansley and Mittie Couch Connors; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the family. 

 

John Deady

Falkville

Funeral service for John Deady, 72, was Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Otto Wood officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Mr. Deady died Oct. 5 at his residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1947, to John Christopher Deady Sr. and Alice Loss Deady. 

He was an over-the-road truck driver for Logistics Trucking Company prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters for 18 years and a lifetime member of the NRA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jennifer Deady; and two sisters, Gerri Michaels and Delores Deady.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Deady; two sons, Johnny Deady, Oak Forest, Ill., and Ian Deady, Costa Mesa, Calif.; four daughters, Lara Deady Smith, Oak Forest , Ill., Micki Deady Bradley, Oak Forest, Ill., Melissa Deady, Chicago, Ill., and Danielle Deady, Norco, Calif.; three stepsons, Tim Vanderploeg, Moulton, Kevin Pattenaude, Blue Island, Ill., and David Pattenaude, Las Vegas, Nev.; three nephews, Ken Michaels, Cicago, Ill., Steve Michaels, Chicago, Ill., and

Paul Michaels, Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Sean Deady (Katie), Jay Smith, Marion Smith, Jack Bradley, Grace Bradley, Declan Bradley, Nathan Day and Makaila Deady; one step-granddaughter, Ellielee Vanderploeg; and two great-grandchildren, Laila Deady and Audrie Deady.

 

Nancy Howell Mitchell

Hartselle

Nancy Howell Mitchell, formerly Nancy Pitt Howell, age 68, passed away Oct. 6. She was a native of Hartselle and a resident of Tuscaloosa. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Eason Mitchell; her father, Ray Nance Howell Jr.; and her brother, Robert Howell.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ashley Patterson (Josh), Bart Patterson (Jehan), and Megan Johnson (Matthew); her stepchildren, Alli Mitchell and Susan Mitchell; her grandchildren, Madelyn and Isabelle Geller, Aleena Patterson, William Walker and Hudson Johnson; her mother, Dolly Howell; and her brothers, Ray Nance Howell III and Jon Howell. 

Mrs. Mitchell graduated valedictorian of her 1969 Morgan County High School class. She attended the University of Alabama, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science, and she graduated magna cum laude and first in her class from Cumberland School of Law in 1975. 

She was an attorney admitted to the Alabama State Bar and New York State Bar Association, practicing within the legal departments of American Telephone & Telegraph, General Foods, Garden Way and BellSouth. 

During her time there, she served on the Board of Directors of Garden Way and as general attorney of BellSouth. She also clerked for the Tuscaloosa Circuit Court and served as guardian ad litem before the Juvenile Court in Tuscaloosa County.

Mrs. Mitchell was also the founder and co-chair of the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Help Group in Tuscaloosa. She was named Self Help Group Leader of the Year by the Alabama Multiple Sclerosis Society in 2002. 

Mrs. Mitchell had a calm, generous spirit that she used to encourage, support and comfort others. She possessed a singularly deep well of strength, inspiring her friends and loved ones and lending them strength whenever it was needed. She was an avid reader, a lover of great music, and a devoted fan of Alabama football. Her children and grandchildren will remember her sitting in her favorite chair, adorned in crimson, cheering on the Tide, with a good book and her piebald miniature dachshund, Baby Cheeks, at her side.

Memorial service was held at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. Burial was held Oct. 11 at Hartselle City Cemetery in Hartselle at 11 am. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Alabama-Mississippi chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. 

 

Tony W. Sapp

Falkville

Funeral service for Tony W. Sapp, 74, of Falkville was Oct. 10 at noon at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phillip Hines officiating and burial in Herring Cemetery. 

Mr. Sapp was born March 31, 1945, in Morgan County to Willis Webster Sapp and Opal Evie Angle Sapp. He passed away Oct. 7 at Summerford Nursing Home. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Tony was a loving son, father and brother. He never met a stranger and had many, many friends. Tony was an avid Alabama fan and owned and ran Willie Burger Restaurant in Hartselle.

Survivors include son Will Sapp, daughter Leigh Ann Sapp (m-i Sandez-Sapp), brothers Paul Sapp (Sandra) and George Sapp (Sheila); sisters Vivian Wade (Lloyd) and Brenda Welch (Bobby); and grandsons Trevor Hames and Conner Sapp.

Pallbearers will be Greg Holliday, George Sapp, Joseph Sapp, Craig Sapp, Trevor Hames, and Joe Milsap.

 

Fenix Easton Moses

Decatur

Funeral for Fenix Easton Moses, 86, of Priceville, was Oct. 11 at the Priceville Church of Christ at 1 p.m. The Rev. O.D. Bowling officiated. Burial was at New Friendship Baptist Church with military honors. 

Mr. Moses, who died Oct. 9, was born May 14, 1933, to Robert Lee and Josa Lena Moses. He was an active member of the Priceville Church of Christ for 50 years. He proudly served in the United States Army as a marksman during the Korean Conflict. He retired from 3M after 30 years of service and was an avid farmer. 

He loved God, his family and his country. He will be greatly missed by so many, especially his dog, Harley.

Preceding him in death were his parents, seven brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anne Sue Moses; daughters Pam Hammon (Mickey) and Cindi Claborn (Larry); a sister, Gladys Prater; seven grandchildren, Easton Shariett, Dustin Shariett, Nick Claborn, Abraham Powell, Jake Hammon, Colter Hammon and Davis Anne Hammon; and two great-grandchildren: Gage Hammon and Ilana Shariett.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

His family would like to extend a “special thanks” to Becky, with Hospice of North Alabama, for all her support and for the hospice support.

 

Chase Pannell

Arab

Funeral service for Chase Pannell, 26, was Oct. 12 at noon at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dustin Warren officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Center Cemetery.

Mr. Pannell died Oct. 9 as a result of an accident.

He was born Jan. 12, 1993, in Morgan County to Kendall Ray Pannell and Katina Reeves Pannell. He was a manager for Red Rocket Express Car Wash. 

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include parents Kendall and Katina Pannell; one sister, Kim Pannell; fiancée Nicole Nix; grandparents Jimmy and Sandra Reeves; uncle Kevin Reeves; and cousins Dakota Reeves, James T. Reeves Jr. and Evette Draper.

Pallbearers were Tony Mason, Jimmy Ray Self, Kevin Reeves, Dakota Reeves, Brendon Dotson and Aron Chibbra. 

 

Cherie Louise Bell Gardner

Falkville

Funeral service for Cherie Louise Bell Gardner, 59, was Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Clyde Ledlow officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Welcome Baptist Cemetery at Fairview. 

Ms. Gardner died Oct. 10 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

She was born Sept. 2, 1960, in Morgan County to Howard Gene Bell and Margaret Louise-Jane Wimbs Bell. She was a CNA for USA Healthcare prior to her passing. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jerry Ray Bell and Jerry Don Bell.

Survivors include one daughter, Nicole Watson (Wes); one brother, Terry Bell (Lagratha); four grandchildren, Hunter Gene Watson (Mary Grace), Jacob TJ Watson, Jackson Wesley Watson and Harleigh Rose Watson; and one great-grandchild, Sadie Rose Watson.

Pallbearers were family and friends. 

 

Crystal LeeAnn Dixon

Falkville

Funeral service for Crystal LeeAnn Dixon, 28, of Falkville was Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Hardin officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Mrs. Dixon was born Jan. 8, 1991, in Morgan County to Jerry Carver and Wilma Robinson Carver. She passed away Oct. 8 at Huntsville Hospital. 

Crystal was a member of New Life Church. 

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Dollie Carver, and sister, Amberly Carver. 

Survivors include her husband, Garrett Dixon; son, Raylan Dixon; daughter, Maria Dixon; parents, Jerry and Wilma Carver; two brothers, Mark Carver and Dexter Carver; and two sisters, Laura Carver and Sara Carver. 

 

Sherry Colene Leeth

Falkville

Mrs. Sherry Colene Leeth, 62, died Oct. 11 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born June 9, 1957, in Morgan County to David Harvel Smith and Gwendolyn Joann Maddux. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Cody Leeth.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmie Leeth, Falkville; one son, Matthew Leeth, Falkville; two daughters, Jessica Leeth, Labelle, Fla., and Joanna Leeth, Hartselle; one brother, David Smith; two sisters, Bonnie Aldridge, Eva, and Brenda Miller, Eva; and two grandchildren.

 

Linda Alexander

Falkville

Funeral service for Linda Alexander, 73, was Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at the graveside at Oden Ridge Cemetery with Bro. Phillip Hardin and Bro. Tony Johnson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Oden Ridge Cemetery. 

Mrs. Alexander died Oct. 10 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1946, in Morgan County to Archey Childers and Cleo Puckett Childers. She was a resident of Falkville

Healthcare. She had lived in the Falkville area all of her life. She and her late husband, Kenneth Wayne Alexander, were married for about 40 years.

Linda was loved and will be remembered by friends and her church members. 

She also was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her friend and caregiver, Sarah Holmes.

Pallbearers will be her friends.
