Falkville plans fall festival for Oct. 12

The Town of Falkville, along with the Falkville Volunteer Fire Department, will host its annual Falkville Fall Festival Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual event will be filled with music and activities for the entire family to enjoy.

A pancake breakfast will be held at the VFD, kicking off at 7 a.m. Lots of fluffy hotcakes will be served until 11 a.m. Donations to the fire department will be accepted at the door. 

The Color Me Downtown 5K hits the streets at 8 a.m. Arts and crafts vendors, a car show, bingo, antique tractor show and food vendors will be set up throughout the day. For the children, there will be plenty of fun and games to keep everyone entertained, including a mechanical bull.

Live music will fill the air beginning at 11 a.m. Set to perform is local favorite Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band. 

Jeff is performing his farewell tour, and the Falkville Fall Festival will be the last stop on the tour. Jeff has been a crowd favorite at the Falkville Fall Festival for the past 10 years.

Eric Paslay will take the stage at the festival at 2 p.m. Eric Paslay delivers a powerful punch as a renowned, platinum selling, hit songwriter and dynamic performer. 

The Temple Texas native is a recent Grammy nominee in the Best Country Duo/Group category for “The Driver,” performed by Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley and featuring Eric and Dierks Bentley. He is also a current  Song of the Year nominee for “She Don’t Love You” at the ACM Awards.

The motorcycle benefit ride, sponsored by the Widow’s Sons Masonic Riders Association, for the Falkville VFW returns to the 2019 festival. The ride leaves the VFW at 10 a.m. and ends at Falkville Masonic Lodge in time for the great entertainment scheduled to perform at the festival. 

The registration fee to participate in the motorcycle ride is $25 per person. For more information, call 256-341-7117.

Admission to the Falkville Fall Festival is free. The event wraps up around 4 p.m. 

Falkville is located  between Huntsville and Birmingham off of exit 322 on Interstate 65. All activities will take place in the town’s downtown area. For more information, visit www.falkville.org or contact Falkville Town Hall at 256-784-5922.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Activities

Sept. 29, at the morning worship service, the visiting minister the Rev. Nunn gave the kick-off sermon for the Fall Revival at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The services each night were at 6:30 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday.

Jamie Stewart, youth director, and the youth group will conduct all the Sunday activities Oct. 20. The Bible study is held at 10 a.m., followed by morning worship music, sermon and offertory, with the Children’s Church and Discipleship training at 5:30 p.m. and the evening worship service at 6 p.m.

Morgan County School Food Pantry needs donations

Loretta Gilstrap is in charge of donations for the Morgan County School Food Pantry. Sherri, the coordinator for the pantry, is in need of the following items: canned corn, beans, peas, canned fruit, canned chicken, ham, spam, Vienna sausage, rice, oatmeal, pasta and spaghetti sauce.

North Alabama Antique Tractor Club News

North Alabama Antique Tractor Club members recently participated in the festival shows in Eva’s Frontier Days. They also enjoyed participating in Hartselle Depot Days activities. 

The club members held their October meeting Oct. 8 at the Eva Senior Center at 7 p.m.
