Games to watch: Week One

Top teams face off as high school football progresses

It is week one for high school football in Alabama, and all Morgan County schools are in action. Here are five games to keep an eye on this week; all games will be played Friday at 7 p.m.

1

Brooks (1-0) at Hartselle (0-1)

Where: J.P. Cain Stadium

Hartselle enters the game coming off a 45-14 loss to 7A Austin to open the season. The Tigers will be looking to get the offense on track in game two, as they were held to 222 yards in their week zero loss.

Brooks opened the season with a 69-38 win over Lauderdale County.

Hartselle defeated Brooks 34-18 last season.

2

Austin (1-0) at Decatur (0-1)

Where: Ogle Stadium

The Austin Black Bears will look to build off their early-season momentum following their 45-14 win over Hartselle last week.

Austin rolled up more than 450 yards of offense, including 300 on the ground, in the opening week victory.

Decatur fell to Huntsville 45-14 to open the season Thursday night.

Austin won last year’s game 60-45.

3

Danville (0-1) at Brewer (0-0)

Where: James Tucker Stadium

This will be Brewer’s first game of the season. The Patriots are looking to continue their winning ways from a year ago when they went 8-3 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Brewer had not had a winning record or made a trip to the playoffs since 1999, when they went 7-4. Their eight wins were tied with the 1977 and 1982 teams for most single-season victories.

Danville is coming off a 34-21 loss to Falkville to start the 2019 season.

Brewer won the 2018 game 42-0.

4

Priceville (0-0) at Good Hope (1-0)

Where: James W. Shabel Stadium

This will be Priceville’s first game of the season. It will also be Coach Chris Foster’s first career game as head coach.

The Bulldogs will be looking to improve on last year’s 2-8 record. They return a big offensive line, led by tackle Michael McNutt, who has picked up nine scholarship offers over the summer.

Good Hope is coming off a 28-9 win over Carbon Hill to start the 2019 campaign. Good Hope defeated Priceville 47-14 a year ago.

5

Vinemont (0-0) at Falkville (1-0)

Where: Burl Vest Stadium

This will be Vinemont’s first game of the season.

Falkville defeated Danville Friday night to open the season. Falkville trailed at halftime but used a strong defensive effort in the second half to shut down the Hawks’ offense and pull out the victory.

Falkville won last year’s match-up 32-28.
