Samuel Dale Mason 

Falkville 

Funeral service for Samuel Dale Mason, 71, was held Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at No Fences Cowboy Church with Bro. Josh Sparkman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. His body was laid in state for two hours prior to the service. Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery. 

Dale Mason went to his heavenly home Aug. 18 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Morgan County to Albert Monroe Mason and Imogean Attkinsson Mason, who preceded him in death. 

Dale loved his Lord and was a witness to all he met. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Before he lost his eyesight, he loved working on his old trucks. He was employed by Tyson Foods in the maintenance department prior to his retirement. 

Survivors include his wife, Sandra McCaig Mason; two sons, Jon Mason (Tracy), Falkville, and Jeff Mason (Tiffany), Eva; three brothers, Millard Mason (Peggy), Vinemont, Ronnie Mason, Hartselle, and Steve Mason, Hartselle; one sister, Joyce Johnson (Dean), Hartselle; and one grandchild, Jordyn Mason. He will be missed by his buddies, Gauge and Buster. 

Pallbearers were Ronnie Mason, Millard Mason, Dean Johnson, Dan Higginbotham, Charles Overton and Terry Johnson. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the No Fences Cowboy Church, 3544 West Lacon Road, Falkville, AL 35622. 

Mary Johns 

Somerville 

Mrs. Mary Johns, 91, of Somerville, passed away Aug. 19 at her residence. 

She was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Florida to Ellis Friend Altman and Mary Elizabeth Wiest Altman. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Judith E’hlies and Janet Culver. 

Survivors include two sons, Ralph I. Johns Jr. and Ellis Johns (Faith); one daughter, Judy Nowak (Burt); one sister, Maude Altman; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ila Jo Parker Belcher 

Hanceville 

Ila Jo Parker Belcher, 62, of Hanceville was born Dec. 21, 1957, to Billy Joe and Hester Parker and passed away Aug. 18. 

Survivors include husband, Wayne Belcher; four sons, William Parker, Mike Ballenger, Anthony Ballenger and Matthew Ballenger; several grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Livingston (Eddie) and Pam Stringer; and one brother, Frank Parker (Charlene). She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Billy Douglas Parker. 

Jo was a hard worker, an awesome cook and loved her family very much. 

No service is planned at this time. 

Bobby D. Brooks 

Harvest 

Funeral service for Bobby D. Brooks, 48, was Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jamie Stewart officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Red Oak Cemetery. 

Mr. Brooks passed away Aug. 20. He was born Aug. 12, 1971, at Redstone Arsenal Military Hospital in Madison County to Bobby S. Brooks and Joyce Hardy Brooks. Bobby finished high school at Brewer High in 1990. He was always a very hard worker and very meticulous in all things. 

His accomplishments are commendable. He joined the U.S. Army in 1990, completing four years of service and receiving high merits in training, and soon was promoted to SPEC/4. He became a Bradley Armed Vehicle Driver in the 15th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division, stationed in Germany, and later provided support during the Desert Storm Invasion in Iraq. 

He soon found employment in the field of construction and later found his God–given gift of being a landscape artist, where he became proficient and where his work was something to see. 

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Howard and Beverly Brooks and Raymond and Alma Hardy. 

Survivors include one son, Caleb Brooks (Madeline); father, Bobby S. Brooks (Kim); mother, Joyce Hardy Brooks; one brother, Neville L. Brooks; and one grandchild, Bryar Brooks. 

Pallbearers were Caleb Brooks, Jerald Jenkins, Preston Lenox, Jimmy Fisher, Justin Hardy and Jeremy Hardy. 

James C. “Pee Wee” Smith 

Danville 

Funeral service for James C. “Pee Wee” Smith, 85, was Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in East Lawrence Memorial Garden. 

Mr. Smith died Aug. 21 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1934, in Lawrence County to Joseph Smith and Clemmer Ferguson Smith. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Fruehauf as a press operator. 

Preceding him in death were three sisters, a brother and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Erbiline Smith; one son, James (Jimmy) Smith; three daughters, Angela Westmoreland, Tammy Finch and Janet Johnson; one brother, Billy Smith; one sister, Patricia Barnett; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

Britney Ward Davis 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Britney Ward Davis, 32, was Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Rayburn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. 

Mrs. Davis passed away Aug. 21. She was born Feb. 18, 1987, in Madison County to Jamie Ward and Heather Ormes Buckelew. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, who will be missed by the family who loved her dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Dorthy Key. Survivors include her husband, Austin Davis; two sons, Austin Davis and Tyler Davis; one daughter, Dallas Davis; father, Jamie Ward (Renae); mother, Heather Buckelew; two brothers, Jason Ward and Zackery Ward; and two sisters, Taylor Buckelew and Aleidra Guthrie. 

Pallbearers were Terry Ledbetter, Ricky Frazier, Troy Frazier, Ollice Mason, Robert Blevins and Byron Haynes. 

Arnold A. Porter 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Arnold A. Porter, 90, was Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Enon Cemetery (Lawrence County). 

Mr. Porter died Aug. 23 at Hospice Family Care. He was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Franklin County to Alex Porter and Maggie D. Bohannan Porter. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church. He loved Alabama football, enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center in Hartselle and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. 

He was married to his wife, Foree Porter, for 63 years prior to her passing. He was also preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors include one son, Terry Porter, Hartselle; three grandchildren, Jason Porter (Cara), Diana Porter and Kevin Porter (Taylor); and three great-grandchildren, Wyatt McNeal, Henry Porter and Hannah Porter. 

Pallbearers were Randy Hensley, Kim Hensley, Keith Hensley, Jackie Hensley, Mike McCaghen and Jordan Hall. 

Lila Ruth Archer Kay 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Lila Ruth Archer Kay, 83, was Aug. 17 at noon at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Wright and Bobby Puckett officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens. 

Mrs. Kay died Aug. 13 at her residence. She was born March 21, 1936, in Etowah County to Theodore Calvin Archer Jr. and Ruth Puckett Archer. She was a teacher, employed with the Hartselle City Schools system, until her retirement. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Kay, and her parents. 

Survivors include one son, Terry Kay (Tonja); one daughter, Belinda Anne Kay; one sister, Sara Lynn Archer Andrews (Don); five grandchildren, Danny Lee McCravy, Judson Thomas McCravy, Hannah Kay McCravy, Tanner Davis Kay and Tori-Anna Kay; and three great-grandchildren, Helena Georgia McCravy, Laney McCravy and Heidi McCravy. 

Corey LaBounty, Zane LaBounty, Lee McCravy, Judson McCravy and Tanner Kay served as pallbearers. 

The family would like to express a “special thanks” to Robin King, RN, and Tamika Humphrey, CNA, of Family Hospice Care and to Janice Godwin, her special caregiver. 

Damon Simpson 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Damon Simpson, 87, was Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. 

Mr. Simpson died Aug. 22 at his residence. He was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Morgan County to Elonza Simpson and Olive (Compton) Simpson. 

He was employed by The Huntsville Times as a printer for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was working there when they got their first electric printing press. 

He was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ. 

Preceding him in death were his wife, Shirley Simpson, his parents and two brothers, Thomas Weldon Simpson and Willard Simpson. 

Survivors include one son, Robert Simpson (Shona); two daughters, Nancy Deep (Ray) and Brenda Correia; one sister, Dene Walls (Clarence); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers were Corey Simpson, Jacob Deep, Tyler Franks, Blake Franks, Kevin Correia and Bradley Wilhite.
