The 30th annual Lawrence Cove, Rock Creek and Greasy Cove three-community reunion was held Aug. 3 at Harmony Primitive Baptist Church. 

The first reunion was held in August 1989 with an attendance of 250 people, many of which have passed away or moved over the years. This Aug. 3 reunion had an attendance of 18, which was down from last year’s attendance of 33 people.

The program was opened by Elaine Watts. Elaine welcomed everyone and also read a poem about the three-community reunion. Gail Childers presented the memorial program for all those who died from these communities since last year’s meeting. A candle was lit and a moment of silence was held for those who had passed away. 

Everyone enjoyed the funny stories, fellowship and good memories; however, a business session was held, and those attending voted to discontinue the reunion because of lack of interest. 

Three door prizes were given away, with V.A.Oden winning a beautiful throw, Marigurette Alexander winning a nice cross and Steve Sherrill winning a metal Tree of Life. 

The food was blessed by Brother Dan Hopper, and everyone enjoyed a covered-dish luncheon.

Tim Besnyl of the Los Angeles area directed a vacation for his Alabama family July 10-12. 

Dewayne and Mandy Roper, Matthew Roper, Terry Boyd, Rebekah Mobley, Daniel Mobley, Carolyn Standridge, Randy Besnyl and Carolyn Besnyl of the Massey community enjoyed the Nashville Grand Ole Opry show Wednesday night, featuring Jeannie Seely. 

Thursday the family visited Alex O’Neil in St. Louis, Mo. He is the son of the late Joyce O’Neil, who lived at Palmdale, Calif., and later in the Massey community. 

Joyce and Alex had written a children’s book titled “Shadow On the Moon.” Carolyn Besnyl had a copy of the book made and placed in a folder, and she gave it to Alex. The family, including Alex, enjoyed a St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball game.  

Carolyn Besnyl and sons Tim and Randy toured the “Upper Room” daily devotion magazine museum and also went to the chapel for prayer. The “Upper Room” is promoted as “the place where the world meets to pray.” It is interdenominational, and Stephen D. Bryant is the publisher. The magazine is printed in 35 different languages. The headquarters is in Nashville, Tenn.

Falkville United Methodist Church Events

Falkville United Methodist Church had its regular morning worship service with interim pastor Slade Hogan Aug. 4. He is also the music leader, and Debbie Higginbotham is the pianist. Following the message and holy communion, there was a covered-dish meal and fellowship and games for the youth. 

There will be no youth programs or supper until late August.

Shady Grove Baptist Church Activities

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church held a Baby Dedication Service in the spring, May 5. In keeping with Jesus’ wishes for the little children to have an audience with him to receive His blessing, these children and their parents stood before the church as a gesture of gratitude for the blessing of their births and to offer them back to God for His service. 

Those participating were Kyleigh Len Keeton and parents Austin and Jada, Jan. 25, 2019; Millie Ann McAbee and parents Jeremy and Leslie, Oct. 16, 2018, and Azalee Roan Sparkman and parents Bo and Kristen, Sept. 22, 2018. 

Shady Grove Baptist Church members express Christian love and heartfelt sympathy to the following families: Janet King and family in the death of her brother, George White, and Tab and Sheila Terrell and family in the death of his aunt, Margaret Nell Terrell Brown.
