The Falkville Town Council met with Mayor Ken Winkles in the courtroom Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. Councilmembers issued a proclamation recognizing the Falkville High School football team for its outstanding season.
The town hall was closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 21 and will close for President’s Day, which will be Feb. 18.
Falkville public librarian Jenny Asherbranner has presidents’ autobiographies and biographies, photos of events during their presidencies and much more. Students and history buffs might want to use the nonfiction and reference books available and the computers. The library will be closed, however, Feb. 18.
There is a Free Library Stand at Jack McCaig Park from sunup to sundown. A patron should bring a book and swap it for a book from the stand. There are usually 25-30 books available.
Falkville VFW News
The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Falkville hold party night and bingo each Friday night at 7 p.m. Don Collum is the commander of VFW Post 10774 in Falkville.
Falkville Lions Club holds meeting
The Falkville Lions Club met Jan. 12 at 8 a.m. in the town hall conference room. Lions Club president Terry Napier presided at the meeting.
Danville High School Sports Activities
Danville High School’s Lady Hawks senior Jolee Cole is a team leader and believes in the quote “there is no I in team.” The team will be focused on the Morgan County Tournament at Hartselle High School this week through Jan. 26. Jan. 29 the Hawks will play Clements at 5:30 p.m. Their head coach is J.J. Hill.
The varsity Hawks boys team is playing in the county tournament, too, and head coach Scott Ellis is proud of the team.
Jan. 28 the Hawks will play Clements at home at 9:30 p.m., and Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. they will play Good Hope there.
Their last regular season game is at home against Lawrence County High School at 9:30 p.m. Best wishes to both teams in the county and future competitions.
McKendree United Methodist Church Events
The worship service at McKendree United Methodist Church was conducted by the Rev. Darrell Mosely Jan. 13. His sermon emphasis was “patience.” Tom Summerford is music director.
The Rev. Darrell urged members to read the second chapter of the book of John for Bible study Wednesday nights at 7:15 p.m. A fellowship meal precedes the study at 6:30 p.m.
The Rev. Darrell attends a Prayer Warriors group at Crane Hill Thursday nights. McKendree members were invited to the Prayer Warriors Revival, and the Rev. Darrell preached at the 4:30 p.m. service Sunday.
Everyone is invited to Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and church at 10:45 a.m., as well as the Wednesday Bible studies and meal.
Carolyn Besnyl served as Sunday School superintendent during Bill Lewis’ recovery from his knee replacement surgery and a fall.
Mt. Vernon Methodist, Corinth West Methodist share church activities

Mt. Vernon Methodist Church’s monthly Sunday night singing was held Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Linda Walker led the singing and also conducted the Corinth West Methodist Church’s event Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., Corinth West Methodist adult members attend Bible study. The Rev. Wayne Jetton leads the activity, and this month their scripture lessons are in Isaiah. They met Jan. 16. Everyone is welcome to attend the gospel-convention type singings and Bible study.

Corinth West Methodist activity committee is planning a Swamp John’s fundraiser for late February, with the date being announced later.
Corinth West Baptist Church Events
A Good Luck and Prosperity meal was served at Corinth West Baptist Church’s Senior Citizens Day, Jan. 15 at the 11 a.m. meeting, after door prizes and birthday and anniversary gifts were given. Prayer requests were taken from those attending.

Committee members Patricia Echols, GayNell Wilhite and Anita Reid planned the meal, program and bingo.
Dana is recovering from a six-day stay in the hospital for congestive heart failure.
Dana Henslee purchased bingo prizes and arranged the prize tables before her work assignment in Colorado Springs, Colo. Felicia Cook called the four bingo games.

The next Senior Citizens Day will be Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. with a love theme and emphasis on dessert sweets.
