By Sam Roberts For the Enquirer

Hartselle traveled to Decatur Tuesday to take on the Red Raiders in the Tigers’ area opener.

Girls

The Lady Tigers came out on a roll offensively, as they managed to put up 45 first-half points while holding Decatur to 14. Hartselle did not let up and continued to add on to their lead throughout the night, coming home with a 64-19 victory behind a strong offensive performance and dominating defense.

Janeisha Mathews and Zoey Sales each contributed eight points for the Raiders, while Hartselle was led in scoring by Allie Mayfield at 16, Mariah Taylor with 10 and Hailey Holshouser and Kalli Cartee, nine each.

Boys

Following the girls’ matchup, the Hartselle varsity boys were next up in the action against Decatur. Both teams came out struggling to find any momentum on offense, as neither team made its way into double digits until the second half.
Hartselle managed to grab ahold of a commanding 28-14 halftime lead in the second quarter on offense, scoring 19 points, and the Tigers maintained hold of a steady lead throughout the night and to take home a 58-46 victory from their opening game of area play.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Kenneth Sanders at 19 points, while Omar Pointer added eight points to the board.
Hartselle was led by Brody Peebles at 29, as he went 10-12 from the free throw line. Keondre Swoopes (13) and Tad Sivley (7) also scored for Hartselle.
