Morgan County Commission conducts monthly meeting

The Morgan County Commission held its monthly meeting June 25.

During the meeting, the commission adopted a resolution granting the chairman the authority to write a letter of support for the National Association of Counties and the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama. The letter will be used in applying for a grant to hire a certified case manager to help in the mental healthcare issues faced by the Morgan County Jail and the local emergency room.

If the grant is received, the case manager will help with communication among the Morgan County Jail, local hospitals and the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama to prevent individuals from becoming lost between the three systems.

The commission also moved to adopt a resolution allowing the sheriff’s office to sell a 2004 Ford F150 on govdeals.com as surplus. Commissioners approved a similar resolution for the Sales Tax Department to sell five cash registers as surplus.

The Commission approved a resolution to appoint Commissioner Randy Vest as the Morgan County representative to the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. According to its website, ACCA is an association that “represents the interests of county government before the Alabama Legislature.”

The following resolutions were also approved:

  • Renewal of a printing contract between the Probate Office and RJ Young for seven devices at $407 per month.
  • Authorization for Ray Long to manage insurance on behalf of Morgan County through Lloyd’s Self-Insured Medical Stop Loss.
  • Authorization for Wayne Lindley, maintenance director, to fill a maintenance position.
  • Authorization of the refund of sales tax to Ace Industries, Inc. because of errors.
  • Authorization for Long to begin a project on behalf of the commission with the Alabama Department of Transportation to resurface a stretch of Union Hill Road.
  • Approval for Amy Day to subdivide property off East Upper River Road in Morgan County.
  • Authorization to pay the expense for renewal of a notary public bond for Chuck Sparks in community corrections.
  • Authorization for Long to pay $3,000 to the Morgan County/Decatur Farmers Market; $1,000 to the Priceville Cruise-In car show; and $200 for an advertisement in the Brewer High School football program. The funds will be paid from the Tourism, Recreation and Convention fund on behalf of the commission.
  • Approval of budget amendments for the following areas: general fund, park and recreation fund, archives fund, jail reserve fund, gasoline fund, road and bridge fund, recycling fund, commission on aging fund, TVA fund, environmental fund, community corrections fund and motor vehicle technology fund.
  • Approval of $5,218,744.18 in disbursements to various accounts.
