Prep area sports recap for Tuesday Feb. 27

Softball

Hartselle drops heartbreaker in season opener

Bob Jones 15, Hartselle 13 (8 innings)

Kylie Winton went 4-5 including a homer and three RBIs, but the Hartselle varsity softball team dropped its season opener 15-13 in eight innings to Bob Jones on Tuesday afternoon. Brooklyn Wallace, Kalli Cartee, Emily Cowart and Kylie DuBose all notched multiple hits in the loss. DuBose and Cowart drove in three runs each, while Wallace picked up two RBIs.

The two teams combined for 26 hits in the high-scoring affair. Morgyn Sparkman tossed 7.1 innings in the circle for the Lady Tigers allowing six earned runs and striking out five.

Lady Patriots pick up first win at Decatur

Brewer 9, Decatur 5

Caitlin Bryson, Dallas Linderman and Alli McDearmond all launched homers as the Brewer softball team picked up a 9-5 victory over Decatur. Those three Lady Patriots combined for six RBIs in the victory. Madisen Adams earned the victory in the circle, allowing four earned runs over seven innings while striking out four.

Danville blanks Blue Devils behind Coker

Danville 3, Falkville 0

Laney Coker commanded the circle, allowing just one hit in a complete game shutout to guide the Danville softball team past Falkville 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Coker struck out four Blue Devils en route to victory.

The Lady Hawks offense was paced by Emma Broadfoot who went 2-3 and drove in one run in the win. Callie Ryan and Lindsey West also drove in a run each.

Lady Bulldogs surge ahead of West Morgan for win

Priceville 6, West Morgan 2

Destinee Hargrove went 2-3 including a homerun and three RBIs as the Priceville softball team picked up a 6-2 win over West Morgan on Tuesday. Madison Beddingfield went 2-3, while Hannah Smyth tallied two RBIs and Hannah Wheeler recorded one in the win.

Beddingfiled tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing just one earned run and striking out six Rebels. West Morgan was led by Aaliyah Wallace who went 3-4. Emari Hutto also picked up two hits in the losing effort.

Baseball

Jones blanks Brewer for Priceville win

Priceville 5, Brewer 0

Trey Jones dazzled on the mound as the Priceville baseball team picked a 5-0 shutout win over Brewer Tuesday afternoon. Jones tossed all seven innings, striking out seven Patriots and allowing just four hits.

Jones also picked up two hits and two RBIs at the plate to help his cause. Rhett Lemay, Jayten Terry and Drew Gates each picked up an RBI in the win. Hayden Mahan, Logan Cobb, Will Humphries and Avery Abercrombie recorded one hit each in the losing effort for Brewer.

Soccer

Lady Bulldogs dominate Columbia for lopsided win

Priceville 10, Columbia 0

A pair of hat tricks from Olivia Duran and Karli Wade guided the Priceville girls soccer squad to a decisive 10-0 victory over Columbia on Tuesday.  Inez Bonmahland picked up two goals and Ava Barnett and Anna Swindell tallied one goal each. Priceville improved their record to 3-1 this spring.

Tennis

Hartselle girls dominate sectional-rival Southside

Hartselle def. Southside 9-0 (Varsity Girls)

It was a clean sweep for the Hartselle varsity girls tennis team as they picked up a 9-0 section win over Southside on Tuesday. Caroline Jones, Sydney Pham, Kenzie Hamlett, Macie Cagle, Emory Carnes, McKenna Wright, Alia Wright and Kenzie Burnett all picked up single wins. Hartselle also went 3-0 in the doubles portion of the competition.

Tigers tennis drops match to Southside

Southside def. Hartselle 6-3 (Varsity Boys)

Paxton Preuitt, Connor Hughes and Mark Cera all picked up singles victories on Tuesday afternoon, but the Hartselle varsity boys dropped a sectional match to Southside. The Tigers struggled in doubles, dropping all three decisions to Southside.
