Robert Nelson Stephenson

Robert Nelson Stephenson, born Oct. 29, 1928 in Hartselle, passed away on April 10, 2017 at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. He was the second son of Coy Stephenson and Ruby Lois (Nelson) Stephenson. Robert was a life long resident of Hartselle and graduated from Morgan County High School. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a major contributor and booster of the Auburn School of Business, from which he graduated. He worked at Wolverine Tube and retired as Controller. Robert was a man dedicated to serving his community. He served as a member of the Hartselle Utilities Board and was a long time member of the Kiwanis, where he served as Alabama District Governor. While in office, he enjoyed the convention trips throughout the United States with his family. He was named a George F. Hixson Fellow in 2011, an award of very high distinction in the Kiwanis International.

He was elected mayor of Hartselle in 1996 and served one term.

Robert was a major supporter of the Hartselle United Methodist Church, he sang gospel music with The King James Version quartet and was an active member of the Choir.

In addition to his community service, he enjoyed raising cattle, woodworking and golf.

Robert was preceded in death by his son-in-law Clint Stockett and is survived by his wife, Robbie (Ruth Roberson Quinn) Stephenson of 65 years; his daughters Nancy Lee Stockett and Carol Ann Stephenson Bates and a son-in-law Lee Bates all of Hartselle and three grandchildren Megan, Colin, and Clare Stockett.

Services will be at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle on Thur., April 13 at 3 p.m. Brother Harold Thompson will deliver the eulogy, Mr. Ron Bean will sing a solo hymn. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1 p.m. Family members Megan, Clare, and Colin Stockett, Lee Bates, Kent Quinn and Tom Brown are pall bearers. Charles Quinn is honorary pallbearer.

The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of North Alabama LLC, 311 Bob Wallace Ave., Huntsville, Ala., 35808
