The Brewer Patriots dropped their first area series of the season to the Albertville Aggies. The Patriots knocked off the Aggies in the first game thanks to strong no hitter from Arkansas commit Dakota Bennett.

Brewer got on the board first thanks to a solo homerun from Eli Carnes. However, afire the Aggies loaded the bases off two errors and a hit by pitch, they got two runs across off a bases loaded balk and a sacrifice fly out. Brewer tied the game in the fourth when Dalton Gilmore singled to drive in Zac Self. The Patriots later took the lead 4-2 when Carnes hit a two RBI single to drive in Blake Golden and Baxley Collins. Brewer added another run in the seventh and went on to win the game 5-2. Dakota Bennett picked up the win for the Patriots. He allowed no hits and two runs with 18 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Brewer 2, Albertville 15:

Albertville jumped on the Patriots early and they never recovered in this game. After Albertville took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Brewer tied the game thanks to a two RBI single from Blake Golden that scored Dakota Bennett and Jacob McMinemon. However, Albertville took over from there and went on to win the game 15-2. Eli Carnes took the loss on the mound in this game.

Brewer 1, Albertville 13:

The final score was deceiving in this game as Brewer held on until the very end. The Aggies took the lead first 1-0 in the third. The Patriots tied the game up in the fourth when Blake Golden singled to drive in Zac Self. Albertville took the lead back 2-1 in the sixth thanks to an error. Brewer had a chance to tie the game and maybe even take the lead when Dakota Bennett and Zac Self both singled in the bottom of the sixth, but the Patriots failed to score either. Albertville’s offense exploded in the final inning. The Aggies scored seven run before the Patriots got the first out. Albertville went on to win the game 13-1. Zach Kodra took the loss for Brewer.

The loss to Albertville puts the Patriot’s playoff hopes in serious danger. Only two teams from an area can make the playoffs and with the loss to the Aggies, Brewer will most likely have to knock off top ranked Cullman to reach the playoffs, which is a tall task for anyone.
