The Danville Lady Hawks topped the East Lawrence Lady Eagles last week in a tight game.
Danville loaded the bases in the first inning with just one out thanks to singles from Callie Ryan, Grace Cobb and Emma Broadfoot. However, a wild play from centerfield to third base ended the scoring threat. Danville put two more runners on after two singles in the second, but again couldn’t get any runs across.
The Hawks finally got on the board in the third when Savanah Pelfery grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Broadfoot. Another fielder’s choice pushed the Hawk’s lead to 2-0.
Danville got their last run when Callie Ryan laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Morgan Weatherwax. East Lawrence managed to get on the board in the sixth, but the Eagles couldn’t comeback as the Hawks held on to win 3-1. Emma Broadfoot led the Hawks in hits with three. Laney Coker got the win on the mound. Coker surrendered seven hits but only one run in seven innings pitched.
