March 16

Story Crafternoon- on Thurs., March 16 at 3:30 p.m., kids ages 6-10 are invited to this fun story time where they get to do a craft that ties in with the story. Hartselle Junior High Drama presents Music Man, Jr. Performances will take place Thur., March 16, at 7 p.m., Fri., March 17, at 7 p.m. and Sat., March 18, at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Hartselle High School Auditorium.


March 18

Cross Baptist Church will feature the North Alabama Gospel Jubilee Sing Trusting Grace and The Living Faith Singers on March 18 at 6 p.m. The church is located on Hwy 31 at Lacon Mountain.


March 20,21,27,28

Preschool Storytime! Mondays and Tuesdays, March 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 10 a.m.- Listen to a story and do a simple craft based on the week’s theme. Currently the theme is a letter of the alphabet to build a strong foundation for literacy. (Mondays and Tuesdays are the same letter each week.)  These free programs take place in the Story Hour Room of the Youth Services Department at Decatur Public Library. March 21

Adult Color Club- On Tues., March 21 from 4 to 5 p.m., adults 18+ are invited to the adult coloring club! Bring your own supplies and coloring books if you have them. We will also have color sheets, colored pencils, and markers for those who need them. This free program meets in the Community Room at Decatur Public Library. American Girl Book Club- On Tues., March 21 at 4 p.m., the American Girl Book Club will be hosted by our Teen Volunteers and is designed for ages 7 & up, but is open to any child able to read and discuss a book. Book Babies- On Wed., March 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. Designed for babies/toddlers up to age 3 and their adult caregivers, this program offers short and sweet stories for little ones to build pre-literacy skills. LEGO® HourWe provide the Legos and your school-age kids provide the imagination!  Free program; no sign-up required.  This free program is on Thurs., March 23 at 3:30 p.m. and meets in the Community Room at Decatur Public Library.  For more information call 256-353-2993 ext. 122.

March 24

Family Movie Night Extravaganza!- On Fri., March 24 at 5:30 p.m., join us for an exciting movie…plus extras! Our Family Movie Night Extravaganza features a classic family movie about a flying car! We’ll also have free popcorn, snacks, crafts, a photo backdrop, and activities.  This free event is open to everyone. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and may not be left unattended. The movie will be shown in the Main area of Decatur Public Library.  Feel free to bring a beverage (spill-proof containers, please) or snack of your choice.  Licensing restrictions prevent us from printing titles here, but information is available at www.decatur.lib.al.us or by calling 256-353-2993 ext. 122.

Hartselle City Schools and Morgan County Schools Spring break will be March 27-31. Schools will be closed.


March 29

Get Your Spring On!- Children are invited to join us for a springtime celebration in Margarete’s Garden (courtyard on Cherry Street entrance). Decorate a flower pot then plant a seed or live flower. There will also be flower cookies to decorate. This free program is Wed., March 29 at 2 p.m. and is open to all children and everyone is welcome. Take a Walk in the Park- Join Decatur Public Library in Delano Park on Thurs., March 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Take a Walk in the Park Day. There will be crafts, kite flying (bring your own), sidewalk chalk art, temporary tattoos, bubble making, a StoryWalk®, and a princess appearance by Keilee Terry. Shining Star Special Needs Beauty Pageant- The pageant will be held on April 1 at Sparkman Civic Center. This pageant is open to both male and female contestants of all ages. Call the civic center for more information.

April 7 and 8

Rummage Sale- Do some spring cleaning and make some extra cash at the same time. Join us on Apr. 7 and 8 for our semi-annual rummage sale. Sellers may begin registering on Mar. 6 at 7:30 a.m. The fee is $20 per booth. All sellers must stay for both days. Located at the Sparkman Civic Center.


April 9

Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt- on Sun., April 9 at 4 p.m., SNAP playground behind Sparkman Civic Center is hosting a Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt. Located at 406 Nance Ford Rd SW, this is a free event and open to all ages. To reserve a spot for you and your family, call 256-612-0947.

May 8

Swimming Lesson Registration- Registration will begin on May 8 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Aquatic Center. After this date you can register at the civic center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. We will post fees and session dates on the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Facebook page. There will be a car show for the benefit of the Morgan County 4H programs, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., May 20.  Show will be located at the Morgan County Cooperative Extension Office, 3120 Highway 36 West, Hartselle.

Painting Party- Join us at the civic center on the following dates from 6-9 p.m. and create your very own door hanger. The fee is $20 per project. Feb. 16 (Home Plate, State of Alabama, Pot of Gold), Mar. 21 (Bunny Hat, Cross, Bird Feeder), Apr. 20 (Flower Pot, Memorial Day theme, Awareness Ribbon), May 16 (Tea Glass, Mickey Mouse, Mason Jar). Hartselle Aquatic Center will open for the 2017 Season on May 27 at 10 a.m. Hours of operation will be as follows: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. 10 a.m. -6 p.m., Tue. and Thur. 10 a.m. -8 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. -6 p.m. Admission prices will be $10 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 6-12, $5 for ages 3-5 and ages 2 and under is free. Aerobics- Ladies, join instructor Mellonie Chappell, on Mon., Wed. and Fri. at the civic center at 8 a.m. for a refreshing morning workout. The class is suitable for all ages. Please bring a mat for floor exercises. Any additional equipment is provided. The fee is $25 per month.

Tumbling- This class, instructed by Mellonie Chappell, is designed for children ages 5 and older. They will learn basic tumbling skills. Classes will be on Mon. from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m at the civic center. The fee is $40 per month.

JMK Martial Arts- Join JMK Martial Arts & Fitness at the Hartselle Civic Center and build a more confident you! Exciting martial arts and fitness classes are available for kids and adults. Classes are divided into age groups as follows; Pre-Kubs (ages 3-4), Lil Kubs (ages 5-7), Kid Kubs (ages 8-10), Jr. Kubs (ages 11-14) and adults (ages 15 and older). Baton- Kim Robertson, a former University of Alabama Crimsonette, instructs girls ages 5 and older in the basics of baton at the civic center. The fee for this class is $50 per month. Classes meet on Thur. afternoons. Call the civic center for more details.

Hartselle Public Library offers Preschool Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also called the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Registered participants are welcome to stay for lunch provided by the Commission on Aging. For more information or for transportation, call Dan Price at 256-773-0786.

Falkville VFW, located at 784 Culver Road, hosts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.


Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Hindsight is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.


The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.


A cancer support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
