Cumberlands University picked up not one but two football signees from Hartselle when offensive lineman Cade Holmes and running back Jordan Stover signed with the school. Friends, family, coaches and teammates gathered to celebrate the accomplishment.
Stover and Holmes both signed with Cumberlands, but each took a different path to get there. Holmes became a starter halfway through his freshman year and along the way he has played every position of guard, tackle and center on the line. “When I got thrown in there as a freshman I definitely wasn’t as strong or as good as the other guys,” Holmes said. “But I think that helped me grow quickly and helped me get to where I’m at today.” Stover on the other hand didn’t see a starting spot until the end of his junior year when the starting running back was injured. Stover took over as full time starter in his senior year and was tearing the stat books up until he suffered a broken collarbone on the first play of the fifth game of the season. “I first I thought it was over year.” Stover said. “But thankfully they (Cumberlands) showed a lot of interest in me.”
