Feb. 15 – Mar. 14

Beginner’s Beekeeping Series with Dr. Jim Tew-  This series will run 6 weeks, every Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm., from Feb.7-March 14.  Dr. Tew, the AU Extension beekeeping specialist, will be teaching the course.  There is a $50 materials fee.  Reservations can be made at (256)773-2549.  The course will be held at the Morgan County Extension Office, 3120 Hwy 36W, Hartselle.

Decatur Public Library will be hosting Preschool Story time! Listen to a story and do a simple craft based on the week’s theme. These free programs take place in the Story Hour Room of the Youth Services Department. Call 256-353-2993 ext 122 for more information.

 

Feb. 28

Decatur Public Library is hosting an American Girl Book Club Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. This program will be hosted by teen volunteers and is designed for ages 7 and up, but open to any child who can read and discuss a book. There will be discussion, activities, crafts, and light refreshments. Meet in the Story Hour Room in Youth Service Department. For more information call 256-353-2993 ext. 122

Reading Round-Up Book Club for the 2017 Adult Reading Challenge- Adults 18 and older are invited to our Reading Round-Up Book Club, where we discuss what we’re reading for the 5th annual Adult Reading Challenge. The atmosphere is casual so bring your lunch, stay for 15 minutes or for the full two hours and talk books! You can sign up for the challenge or get stamps for books read at the Book Club meeting. Decatur Public Library is hosting Book Babies. Designed for babies/toddlers up to age three and their adult caregivers, this program offers short and sweet stories for little ones to build crucial pre-literacy skills. TAG Meeting- The Teen Advisory Group invites teens to share ideas about making Decatur Public Library a better place for young adults! Meet with other teens and help plan fun events. FREE Live Celtic Music- The Friends of Decatur Public Library invite you to the library for a night of Celtic music by The Vulcan Eejits featuring Jill Chambless. Hartselle Junior High Drama Presents Music Man, Jr. Performances will take place Fri., Mar. 17, at 7 p.m. and Sat., Mar. 18, at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Hartselle High School Auditorium.

 

April 1

Shining Star Special Needs Beauty Pageant- The pageant will be held on April 1 at Sparkman Civic Center. This pageant is open to both male and female contestants of all ages. Call the civic center for more information.

 

April 7 and 8

Rummage Sale- Do some spring cleaning and make some extra cash at the same time. Join us on Apr. 7 and 8 for our semi-annual rummage sale. Sellers may begin registering on Mar. 6 at 7:30 a.m. The fee is $20 per booth. All sellers must stay for both days.

 

May 8

Swimming Lesson Registration- Registration will begin on May 8 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Aquatic Center. After this date you can register at the civic center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. We will post fees and session dates on the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Facebook page. May 20

There will be a car show for the benefit of the Morgan County 4H programs, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., May 20.  Show will be located at the Morgan County Cooperative Extension Office, 3120 Highway 36 West, Hartselle.

Painting Party- Join us at the civic center on the following dates from 6-9 p.m. and create your very own door hanger. The fee is $20 per project. Feb. 16 (Home Plate, State of Alabama, Pot of Gold), Mar. 21 (Bunny Hat, Cross, Bird Feeder), Apr. 20 (Flower Pot, Memorial Day theme, Awareness Ribbon), May 16 (Tea Glass, Mickey Mouse, Mason Jar). You must register no later than the Thur. before each class. You may register over the phone by calling 256-773-2581 if you plan to pay with a debit/credit card.

 

Hartselle Aquatic Center will open for the 2017 Season on May 27 at 10 a.m. Hours of operation will be as follows: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. 10 a.m. -6 p.m., Tue. and Thur. 10 a.m. -8 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. -6 p.m. Admission prices will be $10 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 6-12, $5 for ages 3-5 and ages 2 and under is free. Aerobics- Ladies, join instructor Mellonie Chappell, on Mon., Wed. and Fri. at the civic center at 8 a.m. for a refreshing morning workout. The class is suitable for all ages. Please bring a mat for floor exercises. Any additional equipment is provided. The fee is $25 per month.

Tumbling- This class, instructed by Mellonie Chappell, is designed for children ages 5 and older. They will learn basic tumbling skills. Classes will be on Mon. from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m at the civic center. The fee is $40 per month.

JMK Martial Arts- Join JMK Martial Arts & Fitness at the Hartselle Civic Center and build a more confident you! Exciting martial arts and fitness classes are available for kids and adults. Classes are divided into age groups as follows; Pre-Kubs (ages 3-4), Lil Kubs (ages 5-7), Kid Kubs (ages 8-10), Jr. Kubs (ages 11-14) and adults (ages 15 and older). Classes include karate, HapKiDo, wrestling/grappling, sparring, self defense, fitness and conditioning. See www.JMKMartialArts.com for a specific schedule and pricing.

Baton- Kim Robertson, a former University of Alabama Crimsonette, instructs girls ages 5 and older in the basics of baton at the civic center. The fee for this class is $50 per month. Classes meet on Thur. afternoons. Call the civic center for more details.

Hartselle Public Library offers Preschool Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Senior Nutrition Center, also called the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Registered participants are welcome to stay for lunch provided by the Commission on Aging. For more information or for transportation, call Dan Price at 256-773-0786.

Falkville VFW, located at 784 Culver Road, hosts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.

 

Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Hindsight is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.

 

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

 

A cancer support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

A Multiple Sclerosis meeting will be at the Sparkman Civic Center every fourth Monday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 2. For more information, call Susan  at 256-502-1221.

The Hartselle Hope AL-Anon Family Group, located at 527 Sparkman St. in Hartselle, meets Mondays at 8 p.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m., Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Ala-Teen Family Group meets Fridays at 7 p.m. For more information, call 1-888-425-0775.

Hartselle’s Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the Freight House Restaurant.

 

Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center. Along with Woodmen of the World, they also do the Avenue of Flags along U.S. 31 in Hartselle. For more information, contact secretary Rita Sims at 256-773-5904.

Weight Watchers classes meet on Mondays at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center with weigh-ins beginning 30 minutes prior to each meeting. Call 1-800-651-6000 for more information.

AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.
