A graveside service for Valera McDonald Marsh, 97, of Hartselle will be Thur., Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. at Blountsville Methodist Cemetery in Blountsville with Bro. Bobby Smith officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be Wed., Jan. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Marsh died Sun., Jan. 22, 2017, at her residence.  She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Marion County to Robert Marshall McDonald and Onnie Lee Otts McDonald. She grew up in Birmingham and began working in Montgomery where she met and married William O. Marsh. William was beginning his military career. The family moved many times including to Maine, Newfoundland, Canada, California, Georgia, Oslo, Norway and Montgomery. She continued her love of books and education to graduate from college in 1971 at the age of 52. She moved to Hartselle seven years ago to be near her oldest son. She enjoyed her love of Christ, travel, knowledge, and her family. She worked as a secretary for the Military Advisory Assistance group in Oslo, Norway while there. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Marsh (Cynthia) of Hartselle and Stephen Marsh (Yolanda) of Marysville, Wash.; a sister, Marie Kiser of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren; nine-great-grandchildren; nieces, Anita Clark and Denise Kelley; and nephew, John Johnson (Mary Lou).

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
