Hartselle Intermediate School to receive new roof

The Hartselle Intermediate School will  be hosting a new roof by late summer after the board approved the agreement with a Birmingham Contracting  group during Wednesday morning’s meeting.

The Hartselle City School Board members hosted Rick Lathan with Lathan Associates Architects attended during the meeting at Crestline Elementary. Hartselle City Schools Superintendent Dr. Vic Wilson said the bid process will take about two months after going through the state.

“This has been in the works for sometime, especially after the long dry spell and into the large amount of rain, it really needs to be replaced,” Wilson said. “ What they are going to do is replace the HVAC units and the roof of the intermediate school and they hope to have the project done by late summer.”

Hartselle Intermediate School Principal Gaylon Parker said in his tenure at the school, they have need a new roof and he is excited to see the project completed.

“I’ve been at the intermediate school for three years and this has been in the making since then,” Parker said. “The roof has progressively gotten worse. All of the students, staff and faculty are so excited to see this happen. We’re very thankful.”

In other business the council:

Approved the agreement with Lathan Associates Architects for the reroofing project at Hartselle Intermediate School.

Approved the request for competition cheer team from Hartselle High School to travel to Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta, Ga., on February 17-19, 2017, to visit Stone Mountain Park.

Approved the request from First United Methodist Church to provide bus services for their Discovery weekend, on Feb. 4, 2017. They will also be using Hartselle Junior High School gymnasium. First United Methodist will pay all fees and rates associated with the use of the buses.

Personnel Items included approving the following:

Adding the follow names to the substitute list- Bridgette Guest, Beth Guin, Bailey Adams, Felina Holmes, Stacie McDaniel, Sallye Swafford, Ashley Jones, Karen Lawrimore.

Employment: April Davenport for the position of bookkeeper at Hartselle High School, effective Feb. 2, 2017.

Supplements included:

Dennis Mynatt for the position of assistant girls’ soccer coach for the 2016-17 season; Donna Legg-Battles for the position of assistant softball coach for the 2016-2017; Bob Godsey, Head football coach at Hartselle High School, to receive supplemental pay for the 2016 season. This will be paid by funds from Hartselle High School Quarterback Club; Pay John Hall for baseball maintenance for Jan. 2015-Dec 2015. This cost will be from the Hartselle baseball funds; and payments for coaches who worked at the winter baseball camp: Steve Woodard, Jerry Childers, John Hall, Bryant Whitlock, Keith Wright and Chad Girodo.
