The Falkville Blue Devils knew exactly what they were getting into when they faced the Hartselle Tigers in the county tournament semi finals. Hartselle just came off a 72-19 thrashing of Danville and the Tigers looked to do much of the same on Friday night. However, the Blue Devils weren’t going to go down without a fight.

Hartselle jumped on the Blue Devils early, taking an 8-2 lead and then extending it later to 10. However, Falkville managed to cut it to six. That trend continued through most of the first half as Hartselle tried to put the Blue Devils away, but they just kept coming back. The Tigers hit fire late in the first half, hitting four three-point shots to take a 42-27 lead at halftime.

The Tigers finally managed to pull away in the second half as they took a 65-39 lead at the end of three and went on to win 74-47.

Despite winning by 27 points, Hartselle head coach Faron Key wasn’t all to happy with his team’s performance. “I don’t think we approached this game the right way. I didn’t lie our mentality early in the game.” Key said. “We didn’t respect the game and our opponent. Hopefully we can get our best out during the championship.”

Trace Hill led the Tigers with 21 points on the night. Isaac Taylor was second with 17. Alex Fowler was the leading scorer for the Blue Devils with 13 points. Caleb Vinson finished with 10.

With the win, Hartselle advanced to play Priceville, the defending champions, in the county finals with a chance to win their first county title since 2008.
