Funeral for Mavis McCaghren Fitzgerald, 92, was Wed., Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with Bro. Joe David Bailey and Bro. Jack Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Herring Cemetery.

Mrs. Fitzgerald died Mon., Jan. 2, 2017, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 8, 1924, to Annie and Walter McCaghren. She was a retired Morgan County School teacher who taught at Austinville, Speake and Danville for 34 years. She graduated from Danville High School in 1943. She received her Bachelor Degree from Florence. She was a member of Danville Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She loved the Lord and she loved people. She loved sports and Alabama football and was one of Danville’s first cheerleaders. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh Fitzgerald; and sisters, Dorothy Puckett and Ruth Morris.
Survivors include two sons, Brad Fitzgerald (Joyce) of Lakeland, Fla. and Joe Fitzgerald (Debby) of Danville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, loving and caring nieces, nephews and all of her former students.
Pallbearers were Mac Morris, Denny Morris, Bill Marshall, Paul Marshall, Brent Breedlove and Errett Fitzgerald.
Honorary pallbearers were Carolyn Marshall, Peggy Lindsey, Betty Stephenson, Jean Narrell, Gerry Cole, Vellene Tanner and all the nurses and caregivers at Summerford Nursing Home.
