Hartselle man arrested on theft, drug charges

DECATUR—A Hartselle man was arrested on multiple charges Sunday night after police were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting incident.

Nicholas Edward Oden, 28, of Hartselle was arrested on Sun., Jan. 8, for theft in the fourth degree, trespassing in the third degree and possession of a controlled substance by Decatur police officers Brandon Ozbolt and John Wellman.

According to a police report, when the officers arrived on scene at Walmart, a witness stated that a white male, later identified as Oden, was attempting to conceal items. Oden was taken into custody after attempting to leave the business.

While being booked in for criminal trespassing and theft, Oden was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Oden was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Oden was then transported to Morgan County Jail and is being held on a $3,500 bond.
