Decatur police arrested three Somerville residents just after 1 p.m. Tuesday on the 1000 block of Central Parkway for possession of drugs and an illegal weapon.

According to a press release, Officer Allen Rawls noticed an equipment violation on the Hyundai Elantra the three suspects were riding in, and conducted a traffic stop.

Elizabeth Ash, 22, 19 Lancaster Road, Michael Keith Duke, 25, 56 Brookwood Lane and Brandon Michael Jones, 36, 99 Sun Valley Private Drive were all charged with possession of a controlled substance, paraphernalia with the intent to use and carrying a pistol without a permit.

K9 Officer Wesley Swoopes assisted with the investigation where he and Rawls found synthetic marijuana inside the vehicle and discovered the car was allegedly stolen from Hartselle.

Hartselle police Lt. Justin Barley said police have on record where the car was reported stolen from CW Wholesale on Oct. 3, but could not confirm any suspects.

“The car they were in was reported stolen to us, but who will be charged and if anyone will be charged is yet to be seen,” he said, adding that officers are still in the interviewing process.

Duke and Jones remained in Morgan County Jail this morning, each on a $3,500 bond.
